The first school in Kirkman was built in 1883 at a cost of $2,200. Later it was used as an opera house and dances were held there. In 1913 the Kirkman consolidated school was organized and used until 1955 when Kirkman and Irwin joined together. Pictured is a historical marker of where the school was located. I actually live in the IKM school district, but have always open enrolled to Harlan.
