Do video games promote violence?

Many people say that video games promote violence, especially parents. Parents have stated that violent video games affect their children, making them bully others at school, act out at home, and increase stress. Scientists have recognized this issue and decided to conduct an experiment. Children of the ages 9-12 and around 345 college students were assigned to either play a non violent or violent video game, those who played the violent video games showed more aggression and toxicity then those who played the non violent video games. I believe that it depends on the person who is playing the video game for it to have a negative or positive effect on them.

The university of Utah studdied this issue and relized that most of the vidoe games children promote killing in wars, criminal behavior, Bad language, sexual content, ect. They also state that depending on how much the child plays the game vaires the negitave impact on them.

The same cannot be said for those who played the non violent video games, some parents/guardians limited their kids to playing games like farming simulator, cooking simulator, ect and reported that their children started acting kinder towards kids at school and not having attitude or acting out towards their parents. Though this is good, a majority of children are more focused on their video games than their school work. This causes their grades to start slipping when they don't realize, which is why I think the screen time should be limited to only weekends.

  1. Do you think video games promote violence?
  2. Do you think that nonviolent video games are better for children?

  • I do think that violent video games can provide violence. If a child plays an hour everyday of a game where he has to be violent then it is normal that that behavior rubs off on him and he starts acting more violent. Because of this I think that nonviolent video games are better for children.

  • I think it depends on how there lifestyle is and how they play the games. If there parents let them constantly play 24/7 and its a game with violence, then I think it would, but if it was just a little but out of your day, then I hope not.

  • I think that video games do cause violence because it is Changes the way that the kids think sometimes and it Kids nine and younger they tend to sit there for hours and play games on the PS4 and that's not good for them cuz then they think they can sit there and play video games all day and that that is going to teach them to cause a violence be rude to people if it's like a violent game violent games can I think that they would help them not to be so violent and to not bully people at school or you know all the other things and focus more on school it would help but like you said that maybe play it once a couple days for like maybe an hour or so and then the next day you play for an hour or so so that you still playing the game and you can do what you need

  • I do think nonvoilent games are better for childern becuase its teaching young people to act a better way than hurting people if they played a voilent game. But do I think video games promote violence, yes and no. Becuase I don't think that it leads to violence becuase when you do get mad at the game you can just get off the game. But people who are like addicted to it might get angery more often.

  • I think that it all depends on the what game it is and how the child was raised to be. Also how much time they are spending on it daily. If video games they playare all violent and they play it all day for long periods of time, it could lead to violent actions.

  • I think it depends on the age of the child, and their comprehension. Most video games are pretty violent and kids who get scared easily, especially younger children, will effect them. Albert Bandura proved this theory with younger kids. I think for teens and such that they wouldn't be promoted towards the violence.
