Are zoos keeping animals captive

The first zoo was originally created for private users only because the wealthy thought that seeing exotic and cool animals should only be for them and not the lower class individuals. Unlike back then lots of people today are happily going and seeing the animals thrive in their habitats, but some people over the years have raised some concerns about if the animals are being treated in the right way. Or overall if the zoo is a safe environment for them to live in, but I do think that sometimes zookeepers if the animals are being rowdy and could potentially hurt them that it would be okay if the zookeepers had things to protect themselves.

I do understand that some people will think the zoo is just locking cute and cuddly animals into cages but they also should know that 80% of mammals that are in a zoo tend to live longer than the animals that are living in the wild. Plus zoos have been able to save 30 plus endangered species from extinction. And how they help with  preventing extinction is that all zoos actively participate in breeding programs.

In conclusion I believe that zoo are not tutoring these animals but are actually helping them, because there's tons of information on how they breed their animals and how they have saved over 80 percent of animals because they have no predators unlike the wild setting dose because there are no poachers but friendly zookeepers that work with them everyday and care for them. So in my opinion I do believe that zoos help their animals rather than hurt them.

Do you think zoos hurt their animals rather than help?

Do you think zoos help endangered species?

Do you think zoo animals are getting the necessities they need that wild animals get

  • Great topic choice and well done Chloe!

  •  Do you think zoos hurt their animals rather than help? I do not feel like the zooes hurt the anamials although some might say they are not fit for nature i belive if they were in the wild there is a higher chance of them dying then being in a zoo were they get vacines and other things

    • I agree with you because animals live a lot longer in zoos than out in the wild.

  • I don't think that the zoos hurt the animals at all. I think that they are keeping the animals to keep them alive. They are there for a reason. Like they were hurt or soemthing is wrong with them. They ain't being held captive. They are just doing what's best for the animals.

    • i agree with you because zoos help animals out so much more than if they were in the wild.

  • I do not think that zoos are keeping animals captive. I can see both sides of the argument however I believe zoos do genuinly take good care of their animals and keep them safe. Like you said animals in a zoo do live longer than in the wild. Zoos tend to educate people and keep endangered animals alive and safe.

  • I think that zoos try to help their animals in the best way they but overall it it is hurting them. I believe it helps endangered species if they are in zoos and have the chance to reporduce making them not as endangered.  They are getting the supplies maybe not enough but they are getting supplies.

  • Do you think zoo's hurt their animals rather than help them? No, usally zoo animals are resucued because their homes got destroyed or they arent doing well. Zoo's give their animals a safe and healthy habitat to thrive in.

    • I agree with you bacause zoos have saved over 80% of animals from the wild.

  •  Do you think zoos hurt their animals rather than help them? I understand both sides of this debat, but personally I think that some zoos are taking care way much better than other zoos and its keeping them safer. But, animals are supposed to be in the wild and roming around.
