Hostage Situation in Texas Synagogue

At around 11am on Saturday 15th, in Colleyville, Texas a Synagogue was taken hostage by an armed individual four people were taken hostage including the synagogue’s own Rabbi. The service was being streamed online and during this service a man’s voice could be heard yelling and that's when police were alerted. The police warned people to evacuate the area to keep them safe. While the stream was ongoing during the hostage situation he could be heard saying things such as “You get my sister on the phone”, “I am going to die” and "There's something wrong with America."

The White House was said to be monitoring the situation along with an Isreali official. Around two hours into the hostage situation the Dallas police deployed more officers to assist with the situation as a precaution. About an hour later two law enforcement officials revealed that they suspect that the hostage situation was thought to be motivated to free Aafia Siddiqui who is serving an 86 year sentence in Texas.

New York, after hearing about this situation, deployed police to key Jewish locations out of an abundance of caution. Then about four hours into the situation one hostage was released. Three hours later a sudden bang was heard from inside the Synagogue followed by gunfire about seven minutes later the governor tweeted out “Prayers answered, All Hostages are out alive and safe”.

  • Good topic choice Lincoln but be sure to make your summary more of your thoughts and opinions and not just a summary of the current event. Also, you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • Overall, I think it was a tough thing to deal with but in the end, with no casualties it was handled the best it could be. I think that overall, these things happen because of the anger that grows between people with different beliefs. I think there are several reasons but as I stated, the main one being different opinions and beliefs

  • I think the situation was handled to the best of their ability because nobody got hurt. I think violence happens because people get jealous or they just get frustrated and think that they can take out on other people when really the only person that they have to blame is themselves.

  • I believe that the situation was handled well if all the hostages were safe and all the police involved were safe. By deploying police to other Jewish locations they were being cautius in case there was another attack. I think that some people are just terrible humans, but some have bad reasons as well.

  • I do think the situation was handled well because no one died. I think people get mad and frustrated and think that they can solve the worlds problems all by themselves. I don't know if there is any way to stop violence like this before it happens other than telling people to be cautious.

  • I think overall this situation was handled the best way it could've been handled, and I feel it was a good thing they streamed it due to the live evidence of the situation. Things like this happen for various reasons, but I feel the biggest reason is political beliefs. The people involved in this situation should also be punished for cruelity.

  • yes i think it was handled well and in a hostage situation they did the best they could.

  • It sounds like this hostage situation was handeled fairly well.  All of the hostages came out alive and well, which is great.  I think it's good that it was taken slowly so that we could assure their safety.  I think that there are a lot of reasons that incidents like this happen, such as religous or political beliefs.

  • I think the situation was awful and the people responsible for this need to be punished. I think it was handled as well as it could be, because hostage situations are extremely precarious and you have to be very delicate towards the people who have taken the hostages.
