Daylight Savings Time

On Tuesday the fifteenth of March the Senate passed a bill that would make daylight savings time permanent. The sunshine protection act still needs to be passed through congress and then signed by the current president of the United States of America Joe Biden. So you might be asking how this bill will affect us students and just US citizens as a whole. Well this bill will get rid of the yearly daylight savings cycle so we will not be brought an hour forward in march and then we will not lose an hour in November. Unfortunately for us we will have to wait until 2023 if it is accepted.

You might be wondering why we have daylight savings time is a thing well it is said that it was made for farmers so they could work longer but actually it was made so that people are using more daylight so that less electricity was used. It was said that this was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in the 18th century by him proposing that the french fire cannons to wake people up in the morning and to get people to use their candles less so they lasted longer at night.

So all in all I don't think that daylight savings time is really necessary it would be good to have it permanently so that the time isn't changing every few months.

Do you think that this bill should be passed?

  • Good topic choice but because I gave it to you I can't give you extra credit points. If I did that, I would have a lot more students ask me for a unique topic. I'm glad you reached out though! I would like to see yoru summary a bit longer and laso be sure to reply to student comments which is worth 30 points. 3 days late= -30

  • I personally think that this bill should be passed. I think that it would make much more sense to have the time be consisten year round. Plus, nobody likes trying to adjust the new time. But, it is such a small part of my life it would not bother me if they did not pass the bill.

  • Personally I want the time to be consistent. I hate having to adjust after losing an hour even though it only takes a couple days to get used to. Overall, it doesn't affect me that much, but I would still rather have it be consisten instead of changing.

  • I don't really care what happens. I think that it is hard to change and adjust to a new sleeping schedule but only for a few days. I think that it really doesn't matter what happens. It's been the same for years, so I don't see why changing it now is such a big deal.
