The Old Capitol Building in Iowa City was a crucial building for the running of the Iowan government. This picture is of the Senate chamber on the second floor of the building. This room held the first General Assembly of the new state of Iowa on November 30, 1846. This was also the same room that had passed the bill that allowed a state university to be built in Iowa City. The Senate Chamber has been used for gatherings like recitals over the years.
