The Story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard

Gypsy Rose was born on July 27, 1991 in Golden meadow, LA. Early in Gypsy's life she was found to be very sick. Growing up it was always her and her mother, Clauddine (Dee Dee) Blanchard. Gypsy’s whole life her mother had told not only her but doctors, family members, and friends, that Gypsy was sick with a variety of diseases. Dee Dee would lie about symptoms to make Gypsy seem more sick and in worse conditions. At a very young age her mom started saying Gypsy had sleep apnea. From then the diagnosis' started building. She claimed Gypsy would have seizures, asthma, leukemia, and complications with her hearing and vision. Gypsy had multiple surgeries done and medications prescribed wrongfully. From all the medication her teeth had rotten and been pulled. Gypsy had her head shaved by her mother and was put in a wheelchair and feeding tube when she needed none. Dee Dee would also add in medication that numbs your legs used for dogs so that it made the wheelchair seem believable. Dee Dee suffered from a mental illness called Munchausen syndrome. Eventually, Dee Dee stopped seeing doctors as test started to come back negative seeing as it was all made up.

Dee Dee played her part as much as she could because of the attention she was receiving. They gained a lot of money from the community and people around them for medical expenses. They even received a free house. In 2011, Gypsy and her online boyfriend she met at a convention planned to run away. She got tracked down by her mother and brought home to her computer completely smashed and wouldn't give her access to her bed. In 2015, she regained her access to the internet and found a new boyfriend (Nicholas Godejohn) on a Christian dating website. She told Nick everything her mom had been doing to her and they had made plans to kill her mother. He came to the Blanchards home and stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy hid in the bathroom with her ears covered. They made their escape to Wisconsin, but they were met by police. The police became aware of her mothers body because Gypsy had made a post on facebook saying "That b---- is dead", hoping her body would be found.

Gypsy pleaded guilty to second degree murder in 2016 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Godejohn was charged with first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Gypsy Rose got released early in December of 2023 and is now 33 years old. Gypsy has said that she is happy she is out of that situation, but is not happy her mother is dead. Gypsy claims she is happier than ever now and with her new boyfriend, they are expecting a baby in January 2025.

In my opinion, I think that what Dee Dee was doing was very wrong and that she did deserve to be punished but not murder. I think Gypsy could have done something better like call the police for help instead of just killing her. I think that Godejohn got the right sentence for what he did. I also think that Gypsy got a good amount of sentencing even though she didn't finish out her full sentence.

  • I think Gypsy Rose Blanchard deserved the sentecing that she recived. She and Nicholas Godejohn planned to take Dee Dee's life so it is only right to sentece them too prison. I don't think that Dee Dee deserved to die, to an extent.  She shouldn't have given Gypsy all of the drugs and medicines to make her sick.

  • Do you think they got the right sentences? I belive that Gypsy should have been given a harsher sentece. She practiaclly hired a hitman, but somehow only got 10 years. However he boyfriend will be in prison the rest of his life. I think they both should suffer the consequences and should each face life sentences.

  • I think that what DeeDee did was wrong and that something should be done for that. But I do not think the punishment should be death because killing someone over her computer being smashed was wrong, and all the things that her mom made up about Gypsy. I do think that she and her boyfriend did get sentenced correctly, because the boyfriend was the one that killed DeeDee and Gypsy was the one that made the plans to kill her.  So the killer should be put in for life (Which he was) and the person that helped or made the plans should be put in for time, but not life (Which is what happened). But I do think that DeeDee should not have been killed. Instead, Gypsy should have called the cops or someone that would help her with her mom instead of having to kill her.

  • Do you think they got the right sentences? I think that Gypsy was sentenced correctly. She did help kill someone and that should put you in jail. I think what Dee Dee did was awful and cruel, but I think that Gypsy should have told police before killing her mom.

  • I think that they did get a correct sentencing because she killed someone but it was deserved. Dee Dee definitely deserved to die becuase of what she did to gypsy. Gypsy definatly should have told the cops and got help.

  • I think what Dee Dee did was wrong, but I think Gypse and her boyfriend shouldn't have killed her. I think they should have gone to the police or dealt with this matter in a better way. I think they should have had longer sentances as they still commited murder.

    • I agree that what DeeDee did was wrong and that what Gypsy and her boyfriend did was also wrong, but I do think that their sentences should remain and are deserved as they had commited murder, instead of calling the police to get help.

    • I agree that it was wrong what Dee Dee did. Going to the police wouldve been a way better option. Their secentences were deservable I think also.

  • I dont beleve that DeeDee should have been killed, even if what they did to gypsy was wrong murder is almost never solution, I think jail time would have served them better then murderer because no human has the right to decide another humans fate.

  • Do you think they got the right sentences? No, I think that they should of had longer sentences and still be in jail for a lot longer. Do you think Dee Dee deserved to die? No, but I think that she should have served time What could've been a better way for Gypsy to get help? get profecshalnal help.
