Should Religion Be Taught In Public Schools?

The word religion is explained as "The belief in and worship of superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods." There are currently over 4,000 religions, including faith groups, or different brances of church. Hinduism is the world's oldest religion. Hinduism goes back more than 4,000 years. Today, with more than 1 billion followers, Hinduism is one of the biggest religion worldwide, after Christianity and Islam.

Religion being taught in public school is a very controversial topic, there are many pros and cons for this. Many people believe no because they think that everyone should be able to make their own decisions and "be free" that it should not be forced. People have also said it could potentially create conflicts between those who are religion and those who are athiest but, Many also believe in both yes and no becuase they think that it should be taught in school but not forced for everyone to learn because some will say that making this a mandatory in not giving us the freedom we are told we have because "religion is a choice, not mandatory."

Many people believe yes because they think that it is important that everyone should have the opportunity to learn, be able to ask questions and able to get an educated anwser. Those who believe more on that they should not be able to teach in school have said "Religion can be taught at home" But those who haved anwsered  yes  have replied with saying that is not always the case because "some children want to learn about religion but with the advirment they are surrounded by causes them to not be able to"

My opinion on religion being taught in school is a definite yes, I think that students should have the opportunity to learn more, I do not think that it should be mandatory, I think this because I do not want those who don't want to be there have to be forced, but I definitely think it would be a great idea to include it as potentially a class.

Do you believe Religion can be taught at home?

Do you think Religion should be taught at school and for everyone to forced to learn?

  • I believe that schools should teach religion but shouldn't be forced. It is good to provide a educational backround and history of different religions to further expand and have a understanding. It should be a personal choice if you want to continue learning about it. And shouldn't be someone else's choice.

  • I do think it would be an amazing idea teaching religion in schools because many poeple dont have the time to make it to church. for example wednesday night church services in harlan, not everyone can make it but those people usally go to school around the area.

    • I agree! I think that if it becomes an optional class than more people could potentially learn more because they are able to make it to an class because it is an option every day to attend.

  • I think religion should be taught in school because I think everyone should have the oppurtunity. I don't think religion should be mandatory because people don't have to be forced to. I think it should be used as a opptional class for students that want to learn about religion.

    • I totally agree with you! I think that if we were offered a class to be able to deepin our faith and learn more about our religion would make an huge impact in not only our lives now but later.

  • I think religion can be taught at home but some families would like to have some in schools. I think it a good practice to have some religion in their life and to practice something. I think it would be a great to have a class for religion that is optional.

    • I agree with what you said, religion should be taught at home. However, some people would want to chose their own religion not what their parents pick for them.

  • I think that schools should teach more about every religion's history and explain on what they consist and then maybe make an optional religion class where they go more in dept about a religion.

  • Religion can be taught at home but parents are usually far too busy to do that so that is why some churches have classes usually on Wednesday nights. People shouldn't be forced to learn certain religions, it's their choice on whether or not they want to. I feel like religion in school would bring up a lot of debates and arguments between students. For example some people may not believe in a God and some people might.

  • Do you believe Religion can be taught at home? I think that religion can be taught at home, but it is hard to learn if you don't have an adult who goes to church and actively practices the religion. I think religion is a very important part of life and it definitely should become more of a priority in homes and possibly school across America.
