Kamala Harris was the VPOTUS for Joe Biden from 2020-2024. Joe Biden officially dropped out of the presidental race on July 21, 2024 shortly after the first presidental debate against our now president Donald Trump. Kamala was then nominated by big democratic names and soon the whole party supported her. Kamala was given just under four months to hold rallies while Donald Trump had been holding rallies for a while.

Kamala Harris then nominated her VPOTUS Tim Walz to be her running mate against J.D. Vance and Donald Trump. Kamala Harris rallied in many states ultimatley winning the usual blue states. Kamala could have rallied a lot more if Joe Biden dropped out earlier leading to that state leaning in her favor. Trump had an amazing night on November 5th winning states he lost four years earlier and also winning most of the swing states. Trump lost Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennyslavania against Joe Biden but ultimatley won them against Kamala. Before Trump had 270 electoral colleges he was already on a plane to celebrate with his supporters.

Was the problem inflation with everything is stores being priced extremely high. Groceries went up 22% under Joe Biden compared to Donald Trump. Trump may have lost the 2020 election due to covid and how he was treating that situtation. So could have inflation cost Kamala Harris and the domocrats. Gas prices were through the roof the past four years going from $30-$40 in a small vehicle to nearly $50. Every state has different gas prices California has their prices from $7-$10 per gallon.

What do you think?

Would Kamala have had a better chance?

Was Inflation a cause?

  • Good topic choice and summary Brett! The issue is this was posted  a week late and you didn't reply to amy student commentws which is worth 30 points.

  • I don't think that Kamala would've won. Many people did not like the things that Joe biden did as president. When they don't like the things that one president does, they are more likely to vote for the other party during the next election.

  • Yes, inflation was definitely a major reason Kamala lost. The promise of lower inflation rates influenced Americans enough to not vote for Kamala. I think that they saw what happened under the Biden administration with Harris at vice president and didn't want the same thing for another 4 years.

  • I think either way Kamala wouldn't have won. I think that the mjaority of America wanted change and wanted to slower and lower inflation rates, and America believed Trump was the man. However, she sould've been much more popular among the democrats if she had more time to campaign.

  • I think inflation really hurt Kamala Harris's chances of winning the election. People were frustrated with high prices and blamed the government, so it was hard for her to get their support. Even if she had a strong campaign, the economy was a huge problem that couldn't avoid.

  • I think if Kamala Harris had more support and more time she could have done better than she did. It just really depends on how she connected with voters and if people believed in her policies. But elections are complicated, a lot of thing would come into play.

  • I do think that she could have won with more time. It would have given her more time to campaign and go to other states. She probably would not have beat Trump with extra time becuase he was just better.

  • I think there is a chance that Kamala could have done better if she had started earlier. Although I don't think she would have beat Trump even with the extra time. Trump supporters knew what they wanted, and in this election Kamala wasn't it. She also might have lost some of those votes when she was making up stories about her past, and voters had figured this out. This put her back in the race, and in my opinion gave Trump even more of an upper hand than he already had.

    • I agree with you, because more time would have given her more things to do. Also she would not have beat Trump so I agree with you on that. When people found out she lied about the things in her past deffenitly made her lose more voters.

  • Kamala would not have won the election with more time because her campaign also didn't connect with the demographics the Democrats needed. She underperformed compared to Biden in 2020. For example, in women, non-college voters, and voters of color. An earlier start may have given her more time to focus on these groups, but she mostly focused on abortion and Trump's flaws. This didn't help her because most voters cared about the economy, which was Trump's main campaign focus.
