Over the past years small farmers have been crushed by the price of their goods going there by the floor they have gone down by almost 50%. With their prices going down the price that it takes to produce their product is going through the roof. Leaving them razor thin margins also leave many if not almost all farmers with debt. The avg small family farm is 250k in debt. While a large operation is in 1.8M in debt. Leaving both in large amounts of debt with producing costs continuing to rise and the price of their goods not rising at all. Small farmers who are in the crop industry are taking a huge hit as all of the land for sale is selling at such a high price that only the large sized farmer has the money to buy the land and it’s so competitive that it's almost impossible for them to expand. This is causing big farmers to get bigger and small farmers to get smaller and crushing the medium sized farmers too.
I think the small farmer is slowly but surely dying and that families won't be able to survive off of 300 acres and a couple animals. I think that large farms will take over the industry creating a monopoly and control the price of grain and ultimately food too. I think that we need to try and make sure that small farmers can survive and flourish in today's agriculture
Do you think that it is possible for a small family farm to survive in 2024?
Do you think that large farms are taking over?
How do you think farmers could get out of debt?

I do think that small farmers are dying, other big farmers are over takeing them and bisinesses favor them because they moake more money wich means higher quality crops. This results in markets not wanting to buy from the smaller farms resulting in less money for them.
i agree with you when you had stated "other big farmers are over takeing them and bisinesses favor them because they moake more money wich means higher quality crops" I think that this is a great point that proves a lot about the big farmers
Do you think that large farms are taking over? I think yes, I think this because the bigger and more money you make the more they can by land and as you said possibly take over. Do you think that it is possible for a small family farm to survive in 2024? I think yes they will be fine, but I think that they will have to watch there spending and how they use there money.
I think that you brought up a good point in "I think yes, I think this because the bigger and more money you make the more they can by land and as you said possibly take over." I think that the small farmer stuggle to come up with the money unlike the big farms
Do you think that it is possible for a small family farm to survive in 2024? I think yes because people still rely on farmers to grow crops in order to use for food later on. Do you think that large farms are taking over? Also yes, because the bigger farms more and more companies will go to and try to buy from.
I think that you brought up a great point about "I think yes because people still rely on farmers to grow crops in order to use for food later on." I agree with this but i think that they struggle more because the large scale farmer are able to produce more crops.
Small family farms are still doing good in small local areas and could try and expand to become medium sized and get out of debt by selling more and paying off there debt would keep the larger farms from taking over because they wouldnt need the money from the bigger farms to pay off all their debt.
I think over the years it has gotten harder for small farms to survive, but it is not impossible. I do think the larger farms have a greater advanage and are performing better then smaller farms. It is very hard for a farmer to ever get out of debt, as they are constantly trying to improve but one way could be spending less money on things that they do not need, making sacrifices in order to get out of debt.

Do you think that it is possible for a small family farm to survive in 2024? I think it is possible, but it is really hard. Bigger farms are buying out smaller farms, and the smaller farms that are still around are really hard to run with costs that are through the roof.
