Where the Donkey and Elephant Originated.

I'd like to figure out where the Donkey for Democrat, and Elephant for Republican came from.History says that the Donkey came from Andrew Jackson being claimed as a jackass. It was mainly because of his slogan "Let The People Rule." Jackson then used this as an advantage. This is very smart on Jackson's part. You can't take the bad and make it bad. He took the bad, and used it to his full advantage. Now look at where the donkey is at today. He started using the donkey on his campaign symbols. It was also used to show his stubborness.Even though Jackson was retired; He was still considered the party's leader. The first time the donkey was used as describing the democrat was in a cartoon sketch. The donkey is kicking the lion so the donkey can get the lion to where it wants the lion to go. This cartoon was by Thomas Nast, a famous political cartoonist in the late 1800's. The cartoon was called "A Modern Baalim and his Ass”.Thomas Nast must have been a very wise man to sketch these cartoons. To realize the actualization of what these political debates were and to put them on paper means alot. The donkey also stuck by relating to Ulysses S. Grant's third term of presidency. Democrats were pretty uneasy about his third term. They tried to use this to make Republicans feel out of place. Again, Thomas Nast came in place to form the Republicans symbol, the elephant. The cartoon consisted wild animals escaping the zoo and roaming central park. They are running from a donkey with lion skin on to scare them away. The elephant is one of the animals running. It's meaning that the elephant is foolish. It also meant to identify the foolish Republican voters. Instead of doing that, it became the symbol of the party not just the voters.

As you can see the Elephant running with "The Republican Vote" on the side. Behind the Elephant is a Donkey with lion skin on it.The donkey hasn't officially been accepted as the democratic symbol, but is still widely used. On the other hand, the elephant has been accepted as the Republican symbol and they commonly use heir design. The Democrats take the elephant as stupid and conservative. The Republicans think it's intelligent, strong, and dignified. The Republicans claim the donkey as ridiculous and stubborn. On the other hand, Democrats claim it as smart, lovable, and humble. To me..it really doesn't matter what they think these symbols mean. It's called mudslinging and their going to say and think what they want. It's just a symbol, it's not exactly what these parties represent.
