The History of Rock & Roll! ~Kelsey McDaniel

When your sitting at home bored out of your mind what do you do? Well I turn on my radio and listen to what today is reffered to as rock. When did this come about though? It all started in the late 1940's and early 1950's. The music's roots came from blues, gospel, R&B, and country. The parents and older members of past generations considered it the "devils music". Mostly because of naughty lyrics, suggestive dancing, and the loud fast up beat music.Rock and Roll started out popular in clubs and on the radio. Then it slowly started airing on the television. Teenagers now had the opportunity to see music artists like Little Richard, Joe Turner, Chuck Berry, and of course the King Elvis Presley.Elvis Presley had a lot of influence on the youth of the nation between 1954 and 1977. His style of music was so different and included the electric guitar and bass. It also had a drum kit which included a snare drum. He was a legedary singer, dancer, and actor.Classic Rock n Roll songs include Hound Dog- Elvis Presley, Twist and Shout- The Isley Brothers, Donna- Ritchie Valens, Lollipop- The Chordettes, and What I said- Jerry Lee Lewis. These songs helped lead to the songs you now hear on the radio. Without these artists and songs we might still be listening to only jazz, and gospel.Rock n Roll will never die. It started in the fourties and will continue for at least another generation.
