Summary 10/8/09

Today we talked about a couple blogs for people that weren't here on Monday. It was about education and people couldn't afford private school until public schools were created and blacks werent allowed to go to these until they were finally desegregized.Then we went on to the 5-3 presentation.-What problems did farmers face on the Great Plains?Crops were failing and railroads were charging excessive prices for storage. They charged huge fines for the farmers to use the railroads. The railroad also took land from the farmers and sold it to big businesses instead.-Who were the Populists and what did they believe in?Movement of the people, the people fighting for their rights, farmers, common people, also called the people's party. They wanted to give power to the common people. Wanted increase in money supply (circulation and inflation), graduated income tax the more money you make the more money you pay to the government, direct election of US Senetors voted by the people, single terms for Presidents and VP, secret ballot for voting, 8 hour work day, restrictions on immagration took jobs and kept wages low.
