Today in CWI we started by talking about the United Nations. We talked about how they have six different languages. They are English, Spanish, Abric, Russian, French, and Chinese. Also, we talked about how the UN didn't want to get involved with Iraq, but that Bush said fine we'll just do it ourselves. People thought that it was because they were getting oil from them for the exchange of food. I thought that was kind of interesting. The UN can send troops anywhere they want, too. Then we talked about the General Assembly. They are all leaders of countries that get together once a year to talk about different subjects. The Security Council is the group that says when and were we go to war. The 5 major countries in it are the US, the UK, China, France, and Russia. Any other countries that are in it, have two years. Then they vote again to see who they want on it.I learned today that the main guy, Khamenei, is the main person controling Iran and everything. Ahmadinejad is just the most public person. Also, he use to be a professor and a mayor of a town. In that town he separated men and women working together, so I guess he's sort of discrimitory of women. That got us on the subject of separation of state and chuch. So we talked about this cross somewhere in California that was a memorial for WW2 vetrans. People don't like that it's there since it's on government ground. I think they are just making a big deal out of something small. That's what I learned today.
