One of President Obama's big things was getting our troops out of the middle east. Even though I think what he is doing is right, it is a bit hypocritical, because he has already sent 21,000 troops over already. I think that is actually a major issue that probably got him a lot of votes at election time, so to go back on his word is not something I think is okay. While getting our troops out of Afghanistan, it looks like that might not be the case coming up pretty soon. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Robert Gates, our current secretary of defense, is planning on sending thousands more of our troops over to Afghanistan.I do agree with this decision because it sounds like our troops will be safer. Even if we have to send more to save more, I think it will be worth it. The reason for sending more troops overseas is that right now, we don't have enough soldiers or equipment to keep our soldiers safe from roadside bombs.There is a lot of dirt that has been turned, there are lots of villages, and you can't really be sure where there are or aren't bombs. So instead of losing more troops to bombs, we will send people over that specialize, particularly in the area of route clearance. I really think this will help our efforts over there, and I think it was definately the right decision.
