Lacey Mosley

Lacey Mosley is the lead singer of my favorite band Flyleaf. She was born on September 4,1981 Arlington, Texas. Her mother was a single mom of six. When she was young she was an Atheist. At the age of 10 she began trying out drugs and before she turned 13 she was fully addicted. "I was trying to figure out who I was and anything to separate me from my family, or to separate me from my situation at home was good to me," she said. "It was like a war zone going home."

Her 14 Christmas she got a bass guitar. Her and her brother, who played guitar, would play Nirvana and Green Day songs together. At sixteen, Lacey Mosley got in a fight with her mother and the police were called. She was kicked out of her home. She went and lived with her grandparents in Gulfport, Mississippi. She joined a local band there that was looking for a bass player and also attended high school. Later she began singing for the band and learned guitar so she could write her own songs.

During that same year she went through deep depression and had suicidal thoughts. "I lost my boyfriend, I lost my brothers and sisters that I watched every day, and I lost my drugs that I did. I really felt like that was the end," she said. "So I decided to kill myself the next day." She went to church with her grandmother and then she said that something changed her mind and also changed her life from then on.

After visiting her mother in her home town, she started a new band. She ended up not returning to her grandparents house. After the band broke up she moved to Temple, Texas. There she met James Culpepper who was a drummer. They started to write songs together. Later Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya called and asked if she would like to audition their band, Sporos. They ended up not giving her the spot.

The Sporos spilt up and then Jared and Sameer joined James and Lacey and the formed a band called Listen. They ended up going through two bass players and then found Pat seals. At that point they changed their name to Passerby. In June of 2004 they changed their name to Flyleaf. Mosley was married on September 6, 2008 to Joshua Sturm, the guitarist of the band Kairos.

They now have released two albums. I just went to one of their concerts on August 7. They are very good live.
