Joe Biden

Our current vice president, Joe Biden, is a man of tenacity and hard work. He has devoted the majority of his adult life to politics and has been fairly successful in the field. He stands by his views and beliefs as a Democrat and is not afraid to do so.

Joe Robinette Biden Jr., our 47th vice president, was born November 20th , 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He and his family later moved to Delaware where he graduated from University of Delaware and Syracuse Law School. Joe was elected to US Senate at the age of 29, one of the youngest ever. Tragedy struck just weeks before his swearing in. His wife and young daughter were killed in a heartbreaking accident that left his two sons injured. As a result he was sworn into Senate next to his son’s hospital beds.

Joe remained as a Senator for Delaware for the next 36 years. During the majority of this time he was a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He did major work with the Crime Bill and Violence Against Women Act, which helped abused women and executed tougher laws for abusers. As vice president he also helped to implement the Recovery Act that was created to boost the economy and create two million jobs within the first year. Joe dealt with legislation to improve situations with the Middle East, weapons of mass of destruction, and terrorism.

Being a Democrat Joe shares many of their political views and beliefs. Throughout the last years he has been very avid in ending the war and bringing our troops home. During the war he visited Iraq several times to talk with troops and further his efforts in bringing them home. Joe is also passionate about reducing college tuition, especially for middle class students. He believes that a college education should be accessible for all, no matter their class.  This belief is directly linked to his efforts to improve the middle and lower class workers. Some of his efforts include, voting to increase minimum wage and voting in a pro-union standpoint.

In my opinion Joe Biden is a very dedicated politician. Even in the time of crisis he powered on and went to extensive lengths to do what he needed to do to accomplish his goals. I believe that President Obama also recognized that and that was part of the reason why he chose him for his vice presidential candidate. I think that Joe is very good at expressing his views and beliefs and standing by them. Even though he is a strong politician, I don’t think that he has the leadership needed to be the president if necessary. That being said, he is still hardworking and persistent vice president.
