The Bellvue place in Batavia Illinois. The Bellevue place today, is a apartment complex. Mary was admitted , in 1875, after the assassination of her husband Abraham Lincoln. Researchers say that another thing that could of led up to the placing of Mary into the asylum could have been the death of her son, Willie,  in 1862. Mary spent approximately  4 months in the sanitarium. Mary Todd was holding the hand of Abe when the bullet had hit him. She was so overcome with grief that she did not leave the white house for 5 months until finally she boarded a train in all black and took it to Chicago. The sanitarium she was admitted into was private among the upper class women of the present society. Mary occupied two room on her own and ate her meals by her self at her own table in a private wing of the building. There was only about 20 other women their while she was there. Mary stayed on the 2nd floor in the front.

When i was in Illinois the last 5 days i visited the Bellevue place and took some pictures.
