It was said that the H1N1 flu vaccine is supposed to be available in the first week of October. That would be two weeks earlier that what was excepted. This week the DHHS, released a new research showing that a person would only need one dose of the vaccine, rather than multiple doses. The earlier doses will probably be targeted to health care workers.

This illness is highly contagious. The spread of it is thought to occur the same way as the flu does through coughing and sneezing. You could also became infected by touching something then touching your nose or mouth. The symptoms are a fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, head aches, chills and fatigue. Many people that have been infected also have vomiting or diarrhea. Severe illnesses and death has occurred with the result of illness associated with this virus.Illness with the new H1N1 virus has ranged from mild to severe. While most people who have been sick have recovered without needing medical treatment, hospitalizations and deaths from infection with this virus have occurred. About 70 percent of people who have been hospitalized with this 2009 H1N1 virus have had one or more medical conditions previously recognized as placing people at “high risk” of serious seasonal flu-related complications. This includes pregnancy, diabetes, heart disease, asthma and kidney disease.

People infected with seasonal and 2009 H1N1 flu shed virus and may be able to infect others from 1 day before getting sick to 5 to 7 days after. This can be longer in some people, especially children and people with weakened immune systems and in people infected with the new H1N1 virus. To help prevent yourself from getting the H1N1 virus is to cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. When you blow your nose make sure you throw the tissue away immediately. Wash your hands with soap and water often. You should avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
