Born in Shellman, Georgia Gertrude Baines was the thrid daughter of Jordon and Amelia Baines.Gertrude married Sam Conley at a very very young age and had a daughter named Annabella. She was born in 1909 and died in 1927. Annabella died of typhoid fever at age eighteen.Gertrude lived in Western Convalescent Home in Jefferson Park, Los Angeles. Until she died on September 11, 2009. In Gertrudes whole life she only voted twice. In the 1960 for John F. Kennedy and for the former President Barack Obama. In the nine months since Gertrude gained the title of the oldest person in the world, She has had her 115th birthday and has received a letter from President Obama. Gertrude told The Los Angeles Times that" she never thought she would never see the first African American President of the United States.
