failed state

..A failed state is a place thats government isnt meeting the responsibilities they are supposed to. Some ways to tell if somewhere is a failed state is losing the control of their territory, losing authority that made their decisions, failing to provide pulic services and a failure at communicating with other states. Somalia is an example of a failing state...First i read the article called Failing Nations-Why things fall apart. It was saying that you can see it in peoples eyes when a nation is a failing state. The state loses control of their territory. When the war in Iraq started, a big group of refugees went to Syria. Over population can be the beginning of a failing nation. Places with poor soil and little water are struggling to grow the neccessary food that they need. Some places with plentiful resources somtimes dont like it because it can lead to everyone wanting their resources and they might not have enough...Other things like history and culture can also be factors of failing states. Behind Somalia, Colombia is a failing state as well. I think that it would be awful to live in a failing state. The United States isn't doing its best right now but we are no where near a failing state. I wouldn't know what to do if we didn't have our daily neccessities. We take things like running water for granted when in reality there are some places that would think running water is a luxury...Next i read Shattered Somalia. It was about how the people there have nothing and can only have enough to eat for the day if they sell fish and other mechandise. Even though its an awful place to live, its their home. And now they are migrating to a safer place. I feel bad for them cause they have to leave their homes. Times are really tough. Somalia has always been prone to conflict. Fights would break out and people were killed...Mohammad remembers a lot of violence in his neighborhood fom when he was a young boy. At one point his father got ribs broken. His house was destroyed. The fight lasted for four weeks and his roof would leak rain through. He saw a lot of death in his day. If i saw people dying around my community i wouldn't know what to do. I can't imagine the trauma he went through. There are other bombings that he remembers. Hargeysa, capital of Somaliland rarely sees violence. Berbera is a place with more roadside camels and goats than cars...Islamic Courts Union does not want a democracy. They want to rule Somalia. Mohammad was offered 150 dollars per month to fight. They wanted to capture Kismaayo so they could have there own port and they could recieve the stuff they need. He didnt answer them. He knew that the money would make a good impact on his life but he would chance being deported. Food is hard to get it and without it his family will die...Two of the journalists they were with were captured. They were being held ransom. The cost to get them back would be impossible to pay. To get safely back to their homes they would have to pay $500 and be escorted by soldiers. They were scared that the men would take there money and capture them...Somalia is still not safe. Mohammad has lived a tough life. He is a brave man. He has been through the worst of conditions. After reading this, it makes me think; I'm glad i live in the United States. I am greatful that its not a struggle to find enough food for the day. I love living in America. I hope places like Somalia find peace and get to live life the way i do.
