Ex-con proves convicts can change

Dwayne Betts became yet another statistic in 1996. He committed an armed robbery and carjacking on December of this year and was faced with two felonies. Him being a 16 year old he would have been placed in a juvenile prison. However his lawyer quickly made clear to him that he could easily be but into an adult prison. He was convicted of these crimes and sent to Red Onion State Prison in Virginia.Unlike most prisoners he didn’t grow hateful and dismissive. He grew up very fast and worked as hard as he could to get an education and continue learning. He self taught himself a few things and once out of prison he finished high school and got a full ride to college. Here he achieved near perfect grades and went on to prove that convicts gave learn from their mistakes. He recently released a memoir chronicling the lessons he learned during his incarceration. He soon started a book club for teens to have a safe place to go after school. He didn’t have anything like this which might have helped him to avoid his time in jail. He hopes that this will help teens out with the same problem he had.SiteDwayne Betts
