Today we finished Ashleys powerpoint. Mr. Bruns also discussed where we can find the oral test questions on the website. In 1872 the Yellow National Park was created. In 1893 a book on the Significance of the Frontier in Amerca was published. On the great plains people lived in dirt homes which were made of sod. Women in the great plains were very good at doctoring. The Morril act gave land grants to people to create better schools. The Bread Basket of the Nation which included Iowa and other states.In the 1870s Bonanza farms were created by railroad companies and investors. Bonanza Farms were huge with 15,000 and even up to 50,000 Acres. Railroads charged more to transport goods in the west than in the east. They charged more because of the lack of competition and the distance it took to get to one place from another,it put farmers in debt. Prices for crops were falling and farmers had to morgage thier farms to stay in buissness.Ch. 5.1:-Describe Native American culture.-Why did settlers/people move to the Great Plains?-Do did the US gov't deal with Native Americans in the mid to late 1800's?
