9/13/09;Obama's Speech to the Students}

President Obama gave a speech to the students of America on September 8, 2009. He spoke at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. His speech was viewed across the country. His speech was to welcome students back to school and to remind them of all of their responsibilities this year. He stresses the impotance of staying in school and keeping a good work ethic. He speeks about having a good education and how much you need it to succeed. Obama quotes, "And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it."He talks about how our education affects us, our future, and our countries future. We have to work hard if we want to succeed. The future depends on what kind of education we get and how hard we work. It wont matter what you looked like and what you wore. Obama also talks about those kids who say they can't, who fail the first time they try and give up. If you give up, you will never succeed. For example, the Harry Potter book was rejected twelve times before it was published.Obama says. "Now I know it’s not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork." He talks about his childhood and how hard it was. His father left his family when he was just two years old. His Mother went through rough patches where sometimes she didn't know if she could pay the bills. Obama says there were times when he didn't feel like he fit in, or he felt lonely. He never gave up on any of his dreams obviously.

Obama's speech's main message was to never give up, you need to stay focused on school, and hard work equals success. His speech had a great message though, it may have been controversial. I personally agree with most of what Obama had to say. Yes, it is harder for kids who have troubles at home, live in poverty, or even move from foster home to foster home. But, an education is what you need to succeed. Don't give up our country depends on your decisions.
