Chapter 10 in a Nutshell

After the chapter was divided amongst my group, I researched the following topics:1) Causes and Effects of Imperialism2) The Treaty of Paris3) The Anti-Imperialist League4) Making the Panama Canal5) Taft's Dollar DiplomacyWhat an exciting bunch of topics!Instead of just basically doing the project over again and telling you word-for-word what I found during my research, I'll just fill you in on some basics and a couple things I think are very important to know. Some Vocab:Imperialism = the creation of colonies politically submissive and economically profitable to their metropoles in pursuit of an empireArmistice = cease-fire agreementDollar Diplomacy = President Taft's policy of guaranteeing loans to foreign countries with American business' moneyI'm going to assume knowing these three words will help you out when the test rolls around.*Did you know there are about a million Treatys of Paris? Well, maybe not a million, but there's definitely more than one. They could have gotten somewhat creative but no. They're all named "Treaty of Paris" usually followed by a year. The one in this chapter is the Treaty of Paris 1898.I didn't find a bunch of information on Taft's Dollar Diplomacy so if you find any useful information on that subject that's not in the book, feel free to post a comment about it because Mr. Bruns likes to throw those random things on the test.*The Panama Canal wasn't always going to be built in Panama. There was an idea floating around to build it in Nicaragua. But they decided it would be too hard to spell that out all the time. Just kidding:) They got a good deal on the Panama spot.Good luck on the test!Sara
