Chapter 6.1 The expansion of industry-What caused the Industrial revolution to really take off in the late 1800's?1. We were a country that had tons of natural resources. If you dont have any, your dont have a successful industrial revolution. You cant make stuff2. Government support for business3. Captons for Industry.4. Growing Urban Population that provided cheap labor and markets. Immigration.5. Oil for fuel6. Steel7. Bessemer Process- first inexpensive industrial process for the mass-production of steel from molten pig iron. force air into melted iron which takes carbon out, much more longer lasting then iron.8. Very few laws regulated-What were some new inventions in the late 1800's and what affect did they have on people's lives?1. Light bulb by thomas edison- you can work through the night, you can see in the dark. (MR BRUNS THINKS ITS ONE OF THE GREATEST INVENTIONS)2. Christopher Sholes, Invented the type writer. Revolutionized businesses.3. Alexander Graham Bell -- the invention of the telephone.Chapter 6.2 The Age of the RailroadsCh. 6.2:-What impact did railroads have on the US?-Why were many people upset with the railroads?-What did the Grangers or government do to regulate the railroads?Railroad expansion occured to the Mississippi River and then Missouri River. Railroad workers were freight handlers, locomotive engineers who built and repaired the rolling stock. European Immigrants repaied the tracks. Time confussion- each town ran on their own times. Whenever the sun was directly above their heads they thought that it was noon. Then they divided the each into 24 time zones. Towns were connected by railroads.
