Chapter 6-2Age of Railroads-What impact did railroads have on the US?- They created times zones and got them to pass-Helped transpertation of people and devolp the west.-It provided jobs and helped the economy-Why were many people upset with the railroads?-Unfair prices-They gave away land and didnt farm the land.-What did the Grangers or government do to regulate the railroads?They got the prices to be the same for everyone. The got the states to pass the laws. Munn vs. Illionos made the states able to put the prices on the railroad. The goverment made the prices fair and everyone was happy.Its started with Richare Ely. there was a station in Illinois. They had to create time zones. Everyone went by the sun so they created a schedual.There was a.lot of problems. The farmers having problems with the companies the gov would give them money then the would sell the land grantes to other companies. The Granger Laws They helped out the farmers in getting there land and fair prices. The land was soppose to go to the farmers which didnt happen. There rates were higher for the farmers which made them mad. They only had one railroad which made them able to charge them unbelivable prices.The Interstate Commerce Act helped the unconsitutional laws get passed to help the farmer. It was passed in 1887. There was a five member commission. It made the rates fair and everyone was happy. The courts were in favor of the rich people.
