Today bruns started talking about the ITED's. He is going to be grading them and we are going to get extra credit. If you get 40% or higher you will get 100 on the test. Rachel continued on her slideshow.Basic Cowboy Information-Cowboys learned how to do stuff from mexicans. A cowboy worked 10-14 hours a day. You could become on when you were 15-40. They spent most of their time on horses. You could earn $100 or more for being a cowboy.Demand for Beef-The buffalo started to dissapear because we hunted them to much. They started using cattle for beef. This increased the demand for cowboys because the railroads were so very expensive. The main demand for beef came from the north-east. That is why they needed the railroads but farmers didn't like the railroads because they were to expensive. So they used cowboys.End of Open Range-Was a bad period of time. There was a streak of bad weather and the cattle didn't get enought to eat. The farmers then started using fences to move their cows instead of cowboys.RACHEL FINALLY FINISHED HER SLIDESHOW!!!Ashley then started on 5-2, Setteing on the Great PlainsRailroads and the West-There were two main railroads, The Union Pacific and The Central Pacific. If they laid 1 mile of track in a state they recieved 10 miles of land. If they laid 1 mile of track in a territory they would recieved 20 miles of land. The Central Pacific moved east from Sacramento and the Union Pacific moved west from Omaha. This is the first transcontinental railroad. The Irish, Chinese, Afican Americans, and Mexican Americans did most of the work. Both railroads met at Promentary Point, Utah in 1869 to make the first transcontinental railroad.Homestead Act-Passed in 1862. It gave 160 acres of land to the head of the houshold. When they recieved this land they had to build a house and farm on it. There were Private speculators, railroad and state agents, used the law to get land. 10% of the land was settled by the familed that was intended. It was meant to go to people who were not rich, but wealthy people would take advantage of the land and then eventually sold it.
