Today in US History we continued with presentations.Section 8-3African Americans were discriminated against back in the early 1900s. They were not allowed to attend the same school as white children and they had to use different water fountains. They had to sit in the back of the bus and had to move to the back if a white person wanted their seat.They were chargedd more to admit into theaters and otehr public places. Blacks were not allowed to shake hands with white men. They had to yield to white men if they crossed their paths on the sidewalks. They also had to take of their hats in honor to a white man. If they violated a law, they were burned or lynched. They also had seperate buildings for whites and colors.Colored people were not able to vote at all. Discrimination was worse in the South, so many moved north. There was still discrimination with different neighborhoods for blacks and whites. Some fights were started because of discrimination.Native Americans, Asians, and Mexicans were also discriminated against. They had seperate schools and same restrictions as the blacks pretty much. If they violated laws or were on other people's land, they had to pay a peonage or become their slave.Section 8-4: Dawn Of Mass CultureConey Island was once an Island no it is a Peninsula. It is in New York City. It is an amusement park where many people attended after school and work. Another item of entertainment was bicylcing. Bicycling began another part of the women's movement. It gave them more freedom and they could wear normal clothes instead of dresses and corsettes. Tennis was invented in Nrth Wales in 1873. It was later brought into the US. Boxing and Baseball were also introduced in the late 1800s. They were very popular and peopel would crowd hotels just to watch them. Urban Shopping such as malls and chain stores were introduced in the 1900s. Magazines began to be printed. Fast Food restraunts were also starting to become popular.
