Joe started his powerpoint. Chapter 6 section 3-Andrew Carnegie--He was the first person to make a fortune buying stock. He invented Carnegie Steel COmpany. It was the largest producer of steel in the United States. He was poor when he was growing up. He was an immigrant. It was the first billion dollar company sold.Sheran Anti Trust Act--It made it illegal to form a trust that interfered with trade with companies or states.A monopoly is when a company tries to outbuy all the competition.Social Darwinsm--Herbert Spencer an Englich philosopher used Darwin's Theory to explain the evolution of human society. Basically only the strong survive.The Standard Oil Company of Ohio--Started by John. D. Rockefeller. In 1890 the company produced 89% of the nations crude oil. He achieved this by making oil cheaply. He established Rockefeller Foundation which eventually aong with the University of Chicago found a cure for Yellow Fever. The rich people who own big business were called captains of industry and robber barons.Labor--Steel mills emplyed most of the people. Peoply as young as 5 years old had jobs and they worked 7 days a week.Strikes--In 1877 the workers of the Baltimore and Ohio railroads started a strike because of a 2nd wage cut in two months. Freight was stopped for more than a week.That was the end of joes slideshow.Labor Unions--A union of laborers. They struggled at first and then a long time later they started getting somewhere.That was the end of Joe's slideshow.
