Yellowstone's Own Supervolcano

Most people go to Yellowstone for the geysers and the nature, but most people don't know what lies below all of that beauty. Yellowstone is the center of a massive supervolcano, capable of blocking out the sun and killing millions. This volcano has been known about for years, although new technology has brought into light how massive it truly is. Yellowstone's magma reserves are many magnitudes greater than previously thought, say scientists from the University of Utah. Underneath the national park's attractions and walking paths is enough hot rock to fill the Grand Canyon nearly 14 times over. This eruption would dwarf any eruption in written history. This new information doesn't make an eruption more likely to happen, about 1 in 700,000 chance in the next 100,000 years.

I think that it will be safe at least throughout my lifetime and I think that scientists need to keep studying it to learn more.

What would you do if Yellowstone erupted?

How would it change the world?

  • Good but be sure to hyperlink correctly.

  • Scientist have been saying that this thing could erupt at any second for decades. If it did go off, it would be too large for anyone to escape with at least a few states radius. We would most likely die.

  • I think I would try and go underground or in a shelter. I think it would change the world for the worst and life would become very hard.

  • I would try to get a lot of food stock pilled because it volcano would block out the sun then food will start to be scarce. It would be dark all the time and crime would go way up.

  • I dont really know how i would react if Yellowstone did erupt. I read this really good book about the volcano, and what it would b like if i did erupt. It was from a teenagers point of view, and its a really good book. Its just shows how things would be. And how people, and everything would live. They lost a lot of animals, and a bunch of crops. You dont have sun, and there is ash everywhere. And if/when it rained, the ash would become like glue. It was just a really good book, and kept me on my toes on how this teen boy would live, trying to find the rest of his family.

  • I would continue on with my day to day life. Most of the U.S would more than likely be wiped out and or all the climate would change.

  • I would be thankful that I don't live close enough to it, but I would try to provide aid to the people affected by it. There would be air pollution for years to come and Yellowstone would never be the same.

  • I would probably die like everybody else. It would make a huge cloud of ash and everything that would kill millions of people.

    • You wouldn't try to get away?

  • I agree with the fact that I think we will be safe from it happening within our lifetime and from the way it sounds, I think many many generations in the future will also be safe from it. I would be very fearful if Yellowstone erupted, but I think we are far enough away from it that hopefully it wouldn't affect us too much, if it even affects us at all. I think the United States, and possibly the world would change drastically due to the large amount of lives lost and widespread damage.
