A tree topper is the large ornament placed on the very top of a Christmas tree. No one knows exactly where they originated, but their first on record use was in Germany in the 1600s back when baby Jesus tree toppers covered family trees covered with gold glitter, gingerbread and apples.
As time has gone on, angel toppers had become the most popular In England during the 17th century. It makes sense since angles play a large part in the Christmas nativity story and have many Christmas carols to back it up like “Hark the Hearld Angels Sing ''. However the angle on top of the tree to most people represents the heavenly messengers who announced the birth of Jesus Christ.
As more and more years have gone by, star tree toppers have gained popularity. Many people today purchase all different shapes, sizes, and colors of these christmas star toppers to place on top of the family tree representing the very well known star of Bethlaham.
Years and years later Christmas tree toppers are still used in many households that choose to celebrate the season of Christmas. However, today there are more creative tree toppers that have expanded beyond just stars and angles placed at the top of the tree. Unique ideas of these christmas tree toppers keep getting better and better each year consisting of snowman, elfs, candy canes, and even santa.
In my opinion I think that both the star and the angel on top of the tree are equally as special. My family places an angel on one of our trees and a star on the other during the holidays.

To some people they only think there is angle and star topers being sold because they simply just dont want to believe anything else should be placed on top. I personally think both are just as special it comes down to what you like.
On top of my family's tree is a gold star, and I think it looks great. I prefer stars being used for tree toppers because I think it looks a lot better and cleaner. I have seen a few other things on top of the tree but it up to you what you want to put on top based on your views, preferences, and theme.
I agree depending on the theme of your Christmas tree and decorations often depends on what a lot of people place on top of their trees.
My family puts an angel on our tree. We have a star, but it's too big and heavy for our tree. I prefer the angel on our tree because we use ornaments that my siblings make in school and they don't have a theme and putting a star on a messy tree seems too formal.
This year we have frosty the snowmans hat but we used to put a star on the top of the tree.
Its so cool to see what everyone places on the tops of their trees. I also place a snowman hat on the top of my tree and I like the way it looks.
In my house we put an angle on top of the tree. I like the look of both starts and angles on top of the tree. I like the simple look of the star on the top of the tree. We have had the same topper since I can remember.

My family doesn't place anything at the top of our tree, our tree has never had a topper. If we were to use some type of topper it would be a star. The star is so original and it looks the best in my opinion. I think angles look funny on top of a tree.
I have noticed a lot more this holiday season an amount of people that dont place anything on top of the tree and just decorate them I was shocked but I think they equally look as good.
