Waves break into Us Base

Last weekend, "gigantic" waves caused extensive damage to a critical US military facility on a tiny Pacific island in the Marshall Islands, the US Army reported in a video released on Monday. The video shows a huge surge of water crashing into the dining facility at the north end of the island, which is home to the US military's Ballistic Missile Defense test site.

The rushing water broke doors and windows, pushing furniture around as it reached nearly ceiling height, and one person can be heard yelling for people to "get out of here" just before power was cut out and darkness blanketed the facility on Saturday night. The US Army reported that only minor injuries were sustained in the incident, which was caused by the unanticipated, gigantic waves. The US Army's Operation Roi Recovery assessed the damages to the island's infrastructure on Monday.

How do you think you would react in this situation?

  • Yout topic is fine but your summary is brief, it was posted two days late and you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • This would not be good. very scary about the things going on I would also be very confused. i wonder how many people got hurt and eho is going to fix there homes.I also wonder who caused the waves if they were man made?

  • If I were in this situation, I would be terrified. I haven't seen the video, but just hearing about it sounds panicking. The flooding sounds terrible, and the damage sounds extreme.   Do we know what could have caused these gigantic waves?

  • I think that if I was in this situation I would be very scared. I watched one of the videos that was posted and it looked terrifying. It is crazy that water has the ability to break doors of of hinges and do the damage that it has done in the Marshall Islands but also in many different places around the world.
