Utah Teen Diagnosed With Rare Water Allergy

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/utah-teen-diagnosed-rare-water-allergy/story?id=30121194

There is a seventeen year old girl named Alexandra Allen who found out she was allergic to water. She first realized something was wrong when she went swimming and broke out in hives. She tried to go in a lake seeing if she was allergic to chorine or a chemical and she still broke out in hives. Alexandra said "she remembered sitting in the bathroom wanting to itch herself." She found an article that she found someone that was allergic to water. She later went and talked to the girl and her symptoms were the exact same as hers. She later went to a biologist and they wanted to do a test having her stay in water which she thought would be torture.  Her disease usually means it get worse in time but she is not for sure. "Its very hard to stay away from water" she said.

This is very sad im not sure what I would do if I was allergic to water. Water is a major thing in my life i'm always swimming in the summer.  I don't know what I would do at lake Okoboji during the summer. A question is thought im not sure how she showers. I couldn't be able to deal with it. Hopefully they find a medicine or something to help with her disease.

What would you do if you had this disease?

  • I wouldn't know what to do because you have to drink it to stay alive and you have to shower to stay clean.

  • i would feel awful because water is the most essential thing in life.

    • this is so ture

  • I would be very angry, and wouldn't know what to do.

  • I would probably be mad that somehow I was so unlucky that I got this. I would be nervous all the time about getting hit by water and I wonder if it's possible for her to get hives or other symptoms from drinking water. Showers would also be a problem, and washing your hands and stuff would be challenging. He life would be very difficult unless they find something to help her with it,.

    • I think I would be angry too

  • I would be mad. I love going out into the rain and going to the pool. I'd especially be confused as to what to do when my family goes to Myrtle Beach in the summer.

I wouldn't mind that much because, I don't swim all that often and I hate the rain anyways, just more reason for me not to go out in it

I would agree if I wasn't by water.

  • I would try to stay out of the water.
