US Returning Land to Japan it's Controlled Since WW2

Since WW2 the United States has had control over most of the island of Okinawa, and now they are giving it back. The US and Japan have agreed that if the US gives Okinawa back to Japan, than they can still use it for training. Okinawa is an island that the US sends soldiers to so they can train for jungle warfare. Japan and the US have been negotiating about Okinawa since the late 1990's.

1. Do you think that the US should give Okinawa back to Japan? Why or why not?

2. If the US gives back Okinawa, do you think this is a fare trade? Why or why not?

1. I personally don't think that the US should give Japan any of its land back, because if they never would have attacked us at Pearl Harbor we never would have attacked them and took there land. Actions have consequences.

2. If the US were to give back Okinawa than they should ask for more in return, because the Japanese government should have to pay money for land and not just get it given back to them.

  • Good story! Be sure to comment three different days.

  • I think we should give Okinawa back to Japan because it was their land before WWII. I think this is a fair trade because the two countries are working together to become better allies after WWII.

  • 1. Yes, I think the at the US should give back the Okinawa island because Japan owns the island they should be able to use it for what they want.

    2. Yes, The US soldiers will still need be trained for jungle warfare.

  • I think we should give it to them because I think it could potentially strengthen our relationship with them. I think it is still a fair trade because we are still allowed to go over there and put it to use.

  • Yes, I think that it will improve relations with them. Yes, because we can still use it.

  • I think that we are on good enough terms with Japan at the moment where this idea is not bad, in fact, it might actually help our relationship with them. This trade seems fair. As long as the Japanese aren't hostile to the American trainees on the island, I think this is a pretty safe deal.

    • I would have to kindly disagree with you about how it would help our relationship with Japan, due to the fact that many of our soldiers died taking Okinawa and many people in Japan disagree with taking Okinawa back and giving the United States the opportunity to train there still, so I think that the Japanese people will be very hostile about it.

  • I believe that it is time we can start trusting one another again, we have done cruel things to each other in the past but its time to forgive. I believe that it is a fair trade if we still get to use to for training and military operations.

    • I agree that it is about time to start trusting Japan again and forgive for the past, but when war broke out and we took parts of Japan it was there own fault for attacking us first.

  • Yes I think we should because it is rightful theirs. Yes because Japan has back their land and the US still has a spot for training.
