The World In Blue, White, and Red

Following the atrocious attacks in Paris that left at least 129 people dead, 352 injured, and 99 of those 352 seriously injured, the world showed its support and turned blue, white, and red. Barack Obama called the violence, "An attack not just on Paris, not just on the people of France, but an attack on all humanity."

The world agreed with Obama. Buildings in cities across the globe were lit up in blue, white, and red which are the colors of the French flag, in a show of support. In Washington, the ice at the Verizon Center became a tricolor before a hockey game. In New York, One World Trade Center's antenna was lit in honor of France. The Empire State Building was darkened in sympathy as was the replica of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas. The Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Mexican Senate, and the Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square in Canada were all lighted in blue, white, and red. Rio de Janeiro, London, Belgrade, Greece, Madrid, Stockholm, Berlin, Shanghai, New Zealand, and Taiwan also payed their respects.

A peace symbol has been circulating social media to honor Paris. As a result of the attacks, border security has been tightened and there is a city-wide curfew in effect in Paris for the first time since 1944. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Questions-

  • What are your thoughts and opinions on the attacks in Paris?
  • Do you believe ISIS is really the culprit?
  • Do you suspect another attack like this in the near future?
  • In what other ways will the world react to this horrifying tragedy?

My Opinion-

This is truly terrifying and horrific. It's in times like these when the world comes together to pay its respects for the beautiful souls the world has lost. I believe ISIS is capable of death and destruction on this scale. Of course, we all suspect ISIS of this tragedy right away. I don't know whether or not we should expect another attack. I believe that ISIS was giving us just a hint of the future, a mere taste of their plans to change the world. We can see that the attacks on Paris and around the world were all meticulously planned. ISIS has been preparing for quite some time. It's easy to believe that life as we know it can now be forever altered in a few hours, not by natural disasters, but by human corruption. I believe the world will come together to honor those who have died.

  • Again, excellent job!!

  • I think the attacks on Paris woke the world up to begin attacking ISIS no matter what relations they have with another nation attacking ISIS. I think the world will begin bombing ISIS as we should. Even if ISIS isn't the culprit, they are taking responsibility for it so it doesn't matter if they did it or not, but they likely did.

    • I believe that ISIS will affect all of us in the days and months to come. ISIS will affect the entire world and have the ability to change everything. Having one common enemy brings the world together. Do you believe this could be the start of another war?

    • The world becomes one again (not in the Pangaea sense), as it should be. ISIS will definitely have gained some confidence. They have already planted fear and sorrow in the hearts of many people. I believe there is so much more to come if we aren't able to stop this chaotic madness.

    • How shall we take action? Do you believe another war will take place? The attacks in France are being compared to those of 9/11. ISIS was originally a part of Al-Qaeda, but was kicked out for being too radical. Do you believe the allies will all attack ISIS? Will we join in the fight if there is a war?

  • I think that the attacks was a declaration of war. ISIS is letting the world know that they did this. And the only way that we can destroy them is by not backing down and not letting them get stronger. Of course there will be another attack if we don't act. They are already planning more attacks. We have already mourn the losses now is time to take action.

    • How do you propose we take action? Many are suggesting a war and airstrikes are being carried out, but what more should we do? What are your overall thoughts on ISIS? Where do you suppose this next attack will be? I agree with you we need to take action so we won't have to mourn another large loss of life.

  • Everybody all over the world wants to show we are standing by your side France/Paris. This is a shock for the nation and all over the world. Yeah. I believe that the ISIS is the culprit because I saw some videos in which the ISIS said that they also wants to go to Germany/Berlin and the US/ Washington to kill people like in Paris.  The world reacted shocked but also honor those who died.

    • Did you expect any attacks like this? Do you think that they will carry out said plans in the future? With you living near France how did you feel when you found out about the attacks? The world was horrified.

  • I think that it is amazing to see the world coming together like this. It's really disgusting how people could do this to other people. I hope the French military is prepared for a full scale war that is sure to come...
