The life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is a 32-year-old woman who gained lots of attention in the media when she was around 20. Gypsy lived with her mother Dee Dee Blanchard in Springfield, Missouri. Gypsy's mom Dee Dee stated gypsy had some problems at birth. The first problem was sleep apnea. Later in gypsy's life, Dee Dee Blanchere claimed that Gypsy was diagnosed with leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and many different medical conditions that were going to require a lifetime of medical help. However, Gypsy was not unwell, her mother had been lying about all of her symptoms and medical issues. Gypsy was tortured with fake medical conditions that were being treated when nothing was wrong. She was so unwell due to the treatments. The mother of Gypsy stopped seeing doctors for a while after some tests came back negative and took the illnesses into her own hands because she had nurse training so she knew the symptoms and treatments for Gypsy's medical conditions. They received lots of money from the community because her health was “so bad.”

In 2011 Gypsy met a man at a science fiction convention and got in touch with him. The two had planned to run away from her mom with him over the computer. Dee Dee then tracked the two down and Gypsy got taken back home and faced severe consequences. Dee Dee smashed Gypsy's computer so she could no longer contact this man. Later on, gypsy managed to get back online and met another man on a Christian dating site. Gypsy told him everything and told him she needed her mother to be killed. In 2015, the man she met on the dating site came to Gypsy’s house while the mother was sleeping and stabbed Dee Dee to death while Gypsy was in the other room waiting for an answer. Gypsy and the man then ran away to a different state.

In 2016 Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was released about two years earlier on December 28, 2023. Gypsy’s partner who killed Dee Dee, Godejohn was found guilty in 2018 for first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Ever since Gypsy got released she has been blowing up all over the media. She claims she enjoys her freedom away from her mom but is not happy Dee Dee is dead. She is now out of prison and happily married.

  • Great topic choice and well done! Be sure to include your thoughts within your summary.

  • I don't think Dee Dee deserved to die, but I believe she deserved serious jail time. I think the situation would have been resolved much easier and better if both Gypsy and Dee Dee had received help. I think Dee Dee put Gypsy through this because she wanted Gypsy to stay with her at all times and never leave her, and they would become dependent on each other. There is also the publicity aspect of the situation and the benefits it would provide them, such as donations and recognition in general.

  • I do not think that Dee Dee deserved to die, but I do think she deserved jail time. I think Dee Dee did it for attention and for the benefits they would gain. I think Gypsy waited so long to reach out because she had been told all her life that she had something wrong with her. Her mom hadn't let her know the truth and that made it so Gypsy believed everything she was told.

  • I do not think Dee Dee deserved to die. She was doing cruel things to Gypsy, however these things could have been avoided by calling a help agency. I think Dee Dee did all of this because she was overprotective of Gypsy, and also she wanted attention and money. I think Gypsy was finally old enough to realize what was happening, so she called for help later in her life.

  • I dont believe that Dee Dee should have died because I think the mental health issues she had could have been fixed and she could have been helped. I dont think gyspy called for help because her mom gaslighted her into thinking that everything was fine.

  • I do not think that Dee Dee did deserved to die i think that she should have got a lot more help with a lot of her problems that she started going throught just right at birth so ya, Well the women that did start to live with she should have helped DeeDee with her problems and everything thing she needed from her to live.

  • I believe that Dee Dee should not deserve to die. But, I do believe that there should be major conquences and most defintely jail time. I think Dee Dee's mental health is a big part of the the situation but I could also see that she was just trying to get attention as well.

  • I think Dee Dee deserved to die because she used her daughter for money and tormented her childhood with surgeries all the time. I think Dee Dee put gypsy through all the suffering to get money and attention from the public. I think Gypsy either didn't know she was being used or she was too weak to say anything to anybody.

  • No, obviously not, because Dee Dee just wanted take good care of her daughter.

I think it's the same as the first question, she just wanted to be a good mother, take care of gypsy, and also worry about the health of her daughter. Maybe she was too hard with Gypsy but she wanted to take care of her.

I think Gypsy asked for help later because maybe she didn't have a person she trusted to do it.

  • Many people agree that death was not the best solution, but it would be difficult to say which one then since we don't really know why Gypsy decided to act that way, she was the only one who could really guess in which ways she would have worse results, or she simply let herself be carried away by desperation.
