The history of Track and Field.

Track and field began in the Olympics in Ancient Greece in 776 B.C. The track started blooming in the 1860s. Track and field was created because of religious events and celebrations for the Greek gods so men could show off their athletic abilities. The modern Olympic Games played a significant role in the popularizing of track and field worldwide. The first things created were sprinting races, long jump, and throwing events. There are many more events today that you can participate in.

Nowadays, Track is a very competitive and popular sport that shows amazing athleticism. The track events now are sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, and many more. In high school, track is a very good experience, it shows the school your athletic abilities and you get to compete with different schools and people. Track is a very mental sport, you have to be willing to work as hard as you can and to allow yourself to push through very tough races and events.

I am currently in track and I enjoy it. Although track can be draining at times, I think it is all worth it in the end. I run 400’s, 400 hurdles, and occasionally shuttle hurdles and 100 hurdles. At times these events can be tiring and can get me in the wrong mindset. Ever since I've been participating in track, I've learned that not every race is going to go how you picture it and you will have bad meets which you will have to accept and push yourself to be better next time.

  • I do track and I like it but it is painful like you said. My favorite race is the 400m because it takes a strategy and it feels good after the race. I like watching fastes people in the 100m, 200m, and 400m because it's fun to watch people run super fast and know if their time is good.

    • I agree with you!

  • I do track because I need to stay in shape for football. My favorite race to do is the 100m and 200m because I get to run as fast as possible and then it's over. My favorite event to watch is the long jump because I like to see how far people can jump off of a white board.

    • It is always cool to see the long jumper's different strategies when they jump.

  • I did track all through middle school and last year, I did like it, to an extent. It was boring at times and I feel like it took up too much of my time. It's not my favorite sport, that's for sure. In middle school I often times ran open 400s and the 4x4 relay. That was when I was decent at running. In high school, I tried throwing and I liked it. I was mainly good at discus.

    • Im glad that you were able to experience the running part of track and throwing to see what was better for you!

  • I participated in track through middle school. I typically ran 100's, 200's, and sprint relays. I'm not in track in highschool, but I'm in other sports that require a lot of running. If I wasn't in soccer, I would probably go out for track. I know a lot of people who try to do both, but personally, I think I'd be too mentally and physically draining.

    • I think that everyone sees track differently. Soccer requires a lot of running that can be draining at times too.

  • I haven't done track since 8th grade. My sister does the 400m dash so that is one of them I watch, but i would say that my favorite would be the 100m. I enjoyed it during middle school but I would rather be playing soccer for my spring sport.

    • The 100-meter dash is a lot of people's favorite to watch!
