The history of the Civil War

The Civil War was a major event in American history. It took place from 1861 to 1865 and was fought between the northern states, known as the Union, and the southern states, known as the Confederacy. The war was primarily fought over the issue of slavery and the rights of states to secede from the Union. It was a very highly focused and tragic time in our nation's history. Which led to things that happened that we all wish could have happened without war.

The Civil War started with the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The Union fought to preserve the United States as a whole, while the Confederacy fought for their independence. They wanted to keep the slaves and the North did not because they thought it was wrong. The war had a profound impact on the nation, resulting in the abolition of slavery and the reunification of the states.

Some of the greatest figures from the Civil War include President Abraham Lincoln, who led the Union, and General Robert E. Lee, who led the Confederate Army. The war was marked by major battles such as Gettysburg and Antietam, as well as the devastating Sherman's March to the Sea.

The Civil War had a lasting impact on the United States, shaping the nation's history and identity. It led to significant changes in the country, including the end of slavery and the beginning of the Reconstruction era. It's a fascinating period to study and learn about! And in the end, everything ended up in a well-put-together country that is now one of the best countries in the world.

  • I do like the topic but it is a huge topic and one that is not eaily summarized in such a short summary. Be sure to comment back three different days. This was posted a bit late.

  • I dont think a war was necesary to end slavery but it was brought to the point and it makes sense that there was a war because of the size of this debate back then. I think slavery would not be around today as the government is more stable now and I believe they waould shut it down.

  • I don't think A war was necessary to end slavery but I don't think in that time slavery would have ended if the war hadn't occurred. I think the South wanted to make more money from their plantations and keep growing there agriculture. If there wasn't a war I think slavery wouldn't be around today just because of realization and time.

  • I don't think a war was necessary to end slavery, but I think it's okay because it got it done. I think that there were other ways we could have handled it though. I think the south didn't want to get rid of slavery, because that's how they made money. The slaves did the work for them and worked on the farms to make them money. I think the north wanted to get rid of it because slavery is such a terrible thing.

  • I think the war was necessary to end slavery because if there wasn't no war slavery could of lasted longer. The north wasn't like the south so they wanted that slavery gone because they were more smarter than the south back then. Like I said earlier think slavery would of lasted longer but it would stop years later.

  • I think we would have slavery and it would prollably last for some years. I think if we had it today there would be a lot of people but there would prolly be something in place as a law or something.

  • I think that the war was necessary because they might not have ended slavery later on. I think that the South relied on the slaves to do their farm work, but they didn't have as many farms in the North. I don't think that it would around today but I think there still would've been a war about it at some point.

  • I don't think that war was necessary to end slavery but back then it was. The South relied on the slaves to get them products to sell to their families. The North could live without slaves because they didn't use them much anyway. I think if there wasn't a war slavery wouldn't be around.

    • I disagree, I think the war was needed to help end slavery in order to scare people.

  • I think that the war was necessary because I don't know how else or how soon we could have ended slavery.  The North really pushed for it to be gone so we had a war. I don't think Slavery would still be around but it would have defiantly taken longer to be gone.
