THE COLONIAL ERA

In the colonial era, European countries went to different parts of the world to set up colonies. the colonial era was from the time of (1565 to 1783) John Winthrop was an English Puritan lawyer and one of the leading figures in founding the Massachusetts Bay Colony. During the colonial era, which lasted for several hundred years, European countries like Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal traveled to different parts of the world to set up colonies. They did this because they wanted to get rich and have more power. They took control of lands in places like Africa, Asia, and the Americas. This meant that the native people who lived there had to work for the colonizers and give them their resources. It was a time of great change, as the European countries brought their languages, religions, and ways of life to the colonies. This had a big impact on the lives of the native people, as they had to adapt to new ways of doing things. They did this because they wanted to get rich and have power. They took resources from the colonies and made the natives work for them. This had a big impact on the native people's lives. They lost their land and culture, and lots of people died because of violence and diseases. The colonies also changed the economy by creating a global trade network. The European countries got rich from trading with their colonies. They also made the colonies adopt their language, religion, and culture. Eventually, the colonies became independent and the colonial era ended. But even today, we can still see the effects of colonialism. It has influenced our cultures and there are still economic differences between the old colonizers and the former colonies. Understanding this history and working towards making things fair for everyone is important.

Do you think that the colonizers were in the right or wrong when doing this?

If you lived in this time would you rather be a colonizer or a colonial?

Do you think that colonizing is still around today if so where?

  • Kiron,

Please use paragraphs to better effect and expand a bit more as well. Fine topic though!

  • I think that the colonizers were wrong, when they arrived they brought many diseases to the people of the places they took, their customs were gradually disappearing and yet they still took them as slaves. If I lived at that time I definitely would not have liked to be a colonial, they suffered too much.

    • Yes, i agree because the colonizers were in the wrong for wanting more.

  • I think they were in the right because they did not start the fighting and they deserved freedom from all their hard work in coming across the seas and losing family on the way over and they just wanted to find new land and start a new life.

    • I disagree because what they were doing was bad to the colonials.

  • I think the colonizers hurt many people and were in the wrong if they were violent or unfair. Some olonization did eventually lead to good things like the country of America. I don't think colonization is still around today.

    • Yea i agree, the colonials were in the wrong
