Should the death penalty be abolished?

The death penalty is a cruel and inhuman punishment for evil and very bad acts such as murder. The death penalty is still permitted in some states in the USA now the question arises as to whether the death penalty should be allowed or abolished?

In states such as Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Georgia the death penalty is permitted. Personally, I find it difficult to say whether the death penalty should remain or be banned. Because in principle I think that every person deserves life and that’s what they say. But when vicious murder or something similar occurs, the question that arises is precisely whether this murderer, who took the lives of other people, still deserves this life. Often the people who commit murder are also mentally ill. So is the person to blame or the mentally ill person because no normal and mentally healthy person would commit murder right?

Over the last few years 1582 men and women have been executed in the United States since the 1970's. And this harsh punishment can only be done under certain conditions such as murder, treason, the killing or kidnapping of a Congressman, the President. Under other circumstances, the court must normally decide on the punishment.

What do you think?

Do you think that the death penalty can be justified under these certain conditions?

Should the death penalty be abolished?

  • Good topic choice Clara. Your summary could be longer. The bigger issue is you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • I personally think that the death penalty depends on the situation. I also think it should be up to the victims family sometimes if they want them to recieve the death penalty as their punishment. But it should only be used if you one hundred percent know that they are the person who committed that act/

  • I support the death penalty in our justice system. There are multiple reasons for this, one reason is that the death penalty does not close to the pain and harm that many criminals have caused. One problem I have is that many people sit on death row for years before death.

  • I think they should keep the death penalty with only certain things. I think they should only use it under certain circumstances and when it is needed most. Although the death penalty is a little harsh, sometimes it must be done.

  • In my opinion I think they should keep it. If it is a bad enough crime or muder than i feel like they should have that as an option. However other people may say that they should get rid of it because some people are acused of being gulity, so your life is ending even though you havent done anything wrong.

  • I don't it is a question of whether they deserve life or not, but rather, is it forgivable? If society is never going to be willing to accept that person back into normal life, then I don't think it makes much difference if they are sentenced to death or not.

  • I dont believe that they should get rid of it because some people may continue doing it no matter where they are and there is no way of knowing that they even regret what they did. also think of people that were affected by the crime that they commited.

  • I think the death penalty should be abolished because sometimes a quick death isn't what people deserve and there are also cases where people are framed and wrongfully killed. If someone committed a horrible thing like murder, they deserve to rot rather than have a quick release.

  • I think that it should stay. I do think it should only happen to people who did something bad enough because like you said, this is something inhuman to do.  It's kind of a tough thing to judge because it's a big decision.

  • I think they should keep the penalty because if the crime is bad enough the penalty is probably just what the person needs. I think it is necessary to keep people in line and make them scared enough to not break the law.
