Russia Takes Forces out of Syria

Today in Russia, President Vladimir Putin announced that he will be taking all Russian troops out of the Middle eastern country of Syria. Russia believes that they have achieved their goals in the country with the airstrikes. The country of Syria is in a Civil war that has lasted for almost 5 years now. Russia, in support of the Syrian government, has been striking Syria.

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed his decision to stop the strikes over the phone with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. Putin believes his strikes have been effective enough and will still keep a support in centre to help.

Do you think that this decision could be good or bad for the Syrian Government? Why?

I think that this could go either way for the Syrian government. If Russia does keep a support Centre in the country, I think that will partially keep the Syrian rebels from attacking.

  • Well done Irelynn! I do have to take five points off for being one day late.

  • I dont think all the airstrikes in the world are enough to stop terrorists such as Syrian rebels. There will always be terrorists no matter how much military force is used. I think Putin is making a smart decision.

  • Bad because they could still keep attacking and doing harm to civilians. With support in there it will help a little bit because they might know they type of force and they won't want to deal with it.

    • Do you think they have not learned their lessons from the airstrikes?

  • I agree with what you said I think it can go either way like it may be something good and it could turn out bad! I think its is a bad idea that they are all off a sudden think they have achieved their goal..

  • It is good that they achieved their goals and don't feel the need to have troops over there anymore, but it's also scary. Now that the troops are out, what is ISIS gonna do next? Hopefully they have done enough damage to them and won't have to worry about them for much longer.

  • I think the rebels will take advantage of this move by Russia. It just opened up a window that I don't see the rebels passing up.

    • Do you think the Russians keeping troops in Syria will keep rebellions down?

  • It could be have a negative or positive impact for the Syrian Government. There could be peace in Syria or the rebels could take this as an opportunity.

    • Do you think that the Russian government would intimidate the rebels?
