Rod Carew receives new heart from passed NFL player

Rod Carew, a member of the baseball hall of fame received a heart transplant from Konrad Reuland, a former NFL tight end. Konrad passed when he suffered a fatal brain aneurysm. Reuland's mom told NBC that Konrad always wanted to help others and in April of 2016 he decided to be an organ donor. After the aneurysm was discovered Konrad had a 17-hour surgery and never came out of his coma. Due to Konrad's life saving gift, the Carew and Reuland families have become close. When Mary Reuland (Konrad's mom) left him for the last time, she told the doctors she hoped that whoever gets Konrad's heart better deserve the great heart he had. Konrad's mother was thankful for Rod because she got a chance to hear her sons heartbeat again.

Are you an organ donor?

If you were Konrad's mom how would you feel about the situation?

My Opinion-

I am a organ donor, because you never know who's life you could be saving. If I was Konrad's mom, I would feel extremely thankful for the doctors that saved her sons heart so she could still have a part of her son still living, and also to have Carew receiving a good hear that he deserves.

    • Well yes its good to be an organ donor,  but you have the choice to be an organ donor when you are 14 when getting your permit and its a great decision for a teenager to make!

  • I am an organ donor, and hearing a story like this makes me proud to be one! I think organ donation is a great choice because you may have the opportunity to help someone in need in a huge way. If I were Konrad's mom, I would feel glad to know that my son helped someone in great need of a heart.  I would be sad at the death of my son, but knowing that he did something like this would make me proud to be his mother.

    • I agree that you could have a big impact on someones life by being one, and you could make someones family extremely happy!

  • I am an organ donor also. This could help save lives so hopefully I can impact other's lives. I would be super thankful and appreciate that my son could be saved. This would change the way I look at life.

    • I agree! You would have a big impact on the family you help, and I would also be very thankful they could save my sons heart. Being an organ donor can really change someones life with the small thing you do to sign up.

  • Yes, I'm an organ donor. If I'm going to die, someone might as well get use out of my organs. If I were Konrad's mom, I would be upset that my son died, but glad that he was able to save someone else's son.

    • I agree with you that someone can get use out of your organs when you pass. Also I would be very upset from my son passing but being able to help someone is good.

  • I am a organ donor because you never know you could help someone out and save them. If i was the konrad's mom i would be very happy that someone could save my  son so she could see him grow up more.

    • I agree it is amazing that his mom can still have her sons heart. Also being a organ donor is good when you may never know who's life you saved. It will be hard for his mother not to get him to grow up but at least his heart is still living!

  • I am an organ donor because I might just save someone's life. If I was Konrad's mom, I would be extremely grateful for the donation of a heart. I would also thank that doctors for saving my sons life. Without them, it could not of happened.
