New Stupid CDL Training

The new requirements for getting your CDL require you to complete trained courses. The new courses are not cheap, in fact they are very expensive. Prior to February 2022, the requirements were a few paper tests, and a driving test in a commercial vehicle. The new requirements are going to affect the supply shortage and impact large trucking companies.

The new training can take anywhere from 3 weeks up to 6 months. On average it usually takes 7 weeks to complete the training. Most training cost $2,500-$8,500 whereas the old training all you had to pay was state fees. The new training also takes away the one on one with your instructor.

I feel the new training has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that we will have safer roads and safer truck drivers, but down the road it could really affect supply shortage. We are already in a shortage of truck drivers so the new requirements will not help. The disadvantages of the new requirements are that it is very costly and also very time consuming.

What is your opinion on the new requirements?

Do you think the new training will affect the supply shortage?

  • Good topic choice Brady and one that hasn't been done before(+5)! I do think your summary could be expanded on a bit more and you could have replied back a few more times yesterday.

  • I think the new requirements are unecessary and dumb. With the new requirements we will definitely have an impact on the shortage of truck drivers, which will then lead to a supply shortage as well. There is no need to make classes that long, and make the classes that pricey.

  • I think that it is stupid to have these requrements. There are always going to be accidents. I feel like you learn more about driving commercial vehicles by driving them, not by classes. Theis is also about the worst time to start requiring this course because of how short we are on truck drivers.

  • I think the new CDL requirements are dumb. I think that this will definitily affect the shortage of truck drivers so there are even less, and it will affect the supply shortage. I don't think it needs to cost that much and I don't think the classes need to be that long.

  • I do not like that knew CDL training requirments. It will make roads safer, however I do think it will effect the supply chain, and make it so there are less drivers. I was looking forward to getting my CDL when I turn 18, but now I am not looking forward to the payments and long classes it will take. However, I will probably still try to get mine.

  • This new training seems really stupid as you said. Why would you change something that would not be that hard into something that just anoyeing as anything. "Dont fix something thats not broken" a saying that I have heard from many people about many things but yet here we are talking about something supid like this. I also feel like this will negatively affect the supply shortage because its going to take longer to do and is more expiensive so less will want to do it.

  • I think that the new CDL is stupid because I takes a long time just to get one now and how much it cost it insane for just a CDL. Plus there are not a lot of drivers any more and a lot of them are older people because of the CDL requirments.

  • I think that it is kind of dumb that it is so expensive, especialy right now because crop prices are getting lower. Becides they only really use it durring harvest.

    • Didn't know 7 dollar corn is a low price? Farmers don't need to get their CDL's to drive semis as long as they stay within 150 miles of their home, so farmers proabably wouldn't be effected by it as much as people looking to get into the trucking industry. But I do agree with you that the class is dumb.

  • I think the new guidelines are alright because with our time constantly evolving (especially when it comes to the ever-expanding automotive industry and its' technology), I think it's good to ensure road safety and to try and lower as many casualties as possible. I do think, however, the new training will affect some sort of supply shortage in the coming future, but I think once the ball gets rolling, it should rebound back to normal. Maybe this will help newcoming Swift drivers, since they don't really know what they're doing
