  • The Santa Maria was the biggest ship in the Columbus expedition to America. It was about 70 feet long.  The other ships were Santa Clara (or La Niña) and La Pinta.  You would think that these ships would be big, but compared to the ships in Europe at that time they really werent all that big. Just small trade ships. These three ships are very important in the worlds history. These small ships were only ment for the Mediterranean Sea, but they survived going across the Atlantic Ocean. It must have been quit the adventure for Columbus and his crew.

  •  CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS.....

born 1451 and died 1506...   thats 55 years..  just FYI.

    Columbus was a spanish explorer.
its said that his major accomplishment is that he was the first european to discover the new world.
His real name is Christoforo Columbo... which i think is kinda weird sounding.. but oh well..
I think its interesting how on the website im reading it says that Columbus was facinated by Marco Polo and that Columbus got his curiosity and wanting to go into the sea of darness was because of Polo..
After many tried with King John of Portugal, and King and Queen of Spain... the King and Queen of Spain finally gave him money to get supplies, ships, and a crew to sail to find the new land and bring back gold and spices.
He had three ships, the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria and 90 crewmen.
On October 12th, they finally found land. They landed first the bahamas.

I like how on one of the trips back to the land Columbus' ship leaked to he got stranded on Jamaica..
If he was alive right now I woulod wanna ask him how he came up with all of these names for the land?..

  • Sir Francis Drake (1545-1596) was a British explorer, slave-trader, privateer, mayor of Plymouth, England, and a naval officer (admiral). Drake lead the second expedition (the first being Magellan) to voyage around the globe in a journey that lasted from 1577 to 1580. He would sail with two other captains, John Winters and Thomas Doughty, as issued by Queen Elizabeth I. Their voyage began on December 13, 1577 with six ships. Along his general path, Drake sailed passed Brazil and through the Straight of Magellan between August 20 and September 6, 1578. Drake reached Panama by 1579 where he pirated Spanish ships and settlements for food and treasures. It is said that Drake sailed as far north as Vancouver Island, Canada, but his exact destination is unknown. He and his crew then crossed the Pacific Ocean, by Indonesia, through the Indian Ocean, and passed the Cape of Good Hope before finally making it back to Plymouth, England, in 1580. As a reward for his voyage, Queen Elizabeth rewarded Drake with 10,000 pounds.

  • Grandfather, do you know me?
    I am your blood.
    The son of your son.
I come to ask you a question Grandfather.
    Grandfather, don't you know me?
Can I stop being Indian now?
There are others that want to be Indian,
And if they can start from nothing,
I should be able to stop from something?
    Grandfather, don't you know me?
Grandfather, I don't look like you.
I don't know what you know.
It would be easy for me to hide behind my paler skin.
No one would know the pain I feel,
Or see the tears I cry for your Great Grandchildren.
    Grandfather, don't you know me?
Grandfather, look what I have done to our world.
Mother Earth is on her knees.
The Snake and Owl rule the day.
I don't understand the language you speak Grandfather.
    Grandfather, don't you know me?
Grandfather, I want my Pepsi, Levi's and Porsche too.
I want to go where the others go,
And see the things they see too.
I don't have time to dance in the old way Grandfather.
    Grandfather?
    Grandfather, why are you crying?
    Grandfather, why are you crying?
    Grandfather, please stop crying.
    Grandfather, don't you know me?

  • Christopher Columbus, a spanish navigator, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in search of a shorter from Europe to Asia. What he didn't know was the he would become famous by finding the Americas instead. On October 12, 1492 the two competely different worlds met on a little Caribean Island, unknown of the others existance. He was not the first European to find the Americas though the Vikings settled on the North American coast in the late 10th or early 11th century. Columbus thiough was a reason for a century of exporation and change. My source

  • One of the first Native American cultures was the Clovis Culture. The Clovis Culture ranged through most of The North Americas and even into South America a little. This culture is Called the Clovis Culture because the first excavation that yielded evidence to the culture was close to Clovis, New Mexico in 1932.

  • At the beginning of the 16th century Spain was the only country colonizing the new world. In 1540 Francisco Vasquez de Coronado led the Spanish through Central America, California and New Mexico to conquer and colonize. In 1541 the Araucanions Indian nation was the only indian nation to survive the invasion of the Europeans.
