National FFA Week

This week is very special in FFA. It is National FFA Week! Every year, from Saturday to Saturday, during George Washington's birth week it is National FFA Week. George Washington had a huge impact on agriculture in America, so having National FFA Week during his birthday week is a huge tribute to him. This week is dedicated to celebrating FFA and raising awareness for agriculture education. There are over 950,000 members in FFA celebrating this week. I look forward to National FFA Week every year because I enjoy the dress-up days and fun activities in FFA. This week makes me proud to be an FFA member.

What is FFA? FFA was originally short for “Future Farmers of America” They later changed the name to “the National FFA Organization” in 1988, because FFA is not just for people who want to be farmers. It is a club that anyone can join. One thing I like about FFA is that you can be as involved or not involved as much as you want. You can take part in contests, conferences, and many more. To be in FFA must be enrolled in an agriculture class, for at least one semester to participate in FFA. You can be in FFA and pursue any career you want. FFA is a great club if you want to be involved in agriculture.

Why is agriculture education important? America relies so much on agriculture. Without agriculture what would we eat? Many people take for granted the food we eat. Some countries have poor soils and land that grow food for themselves. We are so lucky to live in a country that has great agriculture. It is so amazing that schools across the country have agriculture classes and teach about FFA. I am currently taking Ag:2 or Ag applications. We spend lots of time studying soil, working with plants, and studying Ag businesses.

  • Great job Mikayla! The true #1 this week!

  • I am not in FFA and I'm not sure that I would ever join for just a few reasons. I feel like I don't really have a reason to be in FFA. It's very cool to see so many people so passionate about FFA and National FFA week. It looks like a lot of fun, just not something I am interested in.

  • I am not in FFA, but I have considered joining in the past. Honestly since I won't use any agriculture in the future I wouldn't join. I believe my favorite thing about National FFA Week would be meeting new people and being able to have fun with many different people.

  • I am not in FFA, and probably never join. The meaning behind the club is awesome and it helps a lot of people. But, ive never been interested in that kinda stuff. I think seeing everyone dress up and show their support for FFA even if they arent in it.

  • I'm not in FFA but I used to be. I would still be in it but I don't have time to do FFA anymore or participate in it. I think my favorite thing about National FFA Week is definitely the dress-up days, it's pretty cool to see some people's creativity with the dress-up days.

  • I have been in FFA for 2 years now and I have also had fun experiences. I haven't had time to go to many events but I go to the monthly meetings and have a fun time with my friends playing games and getting free food. one of my favorite things about FFA is the activities we play after monthly FFA meetings.

  • I am not currently in FFA, and I really plan on joining because I am not really interested in agriculture. I think that farmers are really important, and I respect them and what they do, so I'm glad that they get some representation. My favorite thing about this week is the dress-up days

  • I am not in FFA. I would like to be in FFA, but I can't because I am not particularly interested in taking an agriculture class. I respect people who take these classes/are in FFA, but it is personally not something I can see myself doing.

  • I am not in FFA. I probably would join FFA because it seems like it would be fun. I don't really know much about FFA but I think it's cool when people dress up for it.

  • I am a member of the FFA. If I was not in FFA I think I would join for the scolarships FFA can offer. My favorite thing about national FFA week at our school is that we get donuts in the morning.
