Is it that much cheaper to drive an electric car?

Is it really that much cheaper to drive an electric or hybrid car? In my opinion they are better for the environment, But does it cost more money to buy and charge these electric machines? If you are thinking aboyut purchasing an electric car tjink about where you live and how many chargers are in your area in case you may run out of battery. Grtting into the prices of these electric/hybrid cars you may be thinking of purchasing an electric car since the gas prices have gone up over 58% since last year. It turns out the average price of these electric cars are roughly $56,437 according to kelly bluebook, $10,000 higher then the cost of gas and EV's. If you own a Tesla you will get a level 2 charger installed in your home, but you will have to pay for the "superchaegers" if you have to charge your car in public. In my opinion i would not own one of these electric cars because if you run out of battery anywhere you wouldnt be able to charge your car or put gas in it if your stuck somewhere.

Also tax credits can lower the cost of buying your electric car to about $46,000. The federal goverment can offer a $2,500-$7,500 for someone who has newly purchased an eletric vehicle. You may be asking, witch is cheaper overall? it turns out that The U.S Department of Energy repot shows that after people owning electric/hybrid cars it is actually cheaper to own an electric car by saving a few thousand dollars every year. Based on the average lifetime of a car they last almost 200,000 miles, you pay normally $94,000 for gas in that 200,000 miles and about $90,000 in that 200,000 for an electric car. They have a difference of $4,000 witch may not seem like a lot compared to $90,000 but overtime after buying new cars every few years it all adds up. It does turn out that electric vehicles have a bigger up front cost comared to a similar gasoline vehicle.

Do you think it is cheaper to own a gasoline or electric vehicle?

Would you buy an electric car?

  • Good job overall Troy! Your summary is good and is yours. Be sure to reply back many more times.

  • I don't think I would ever buy an electric car because I don't think that most people  could justify the use that they get out of them. They don't go as long and you don't alwlays know where your gonna charge it again. I also think people are worried about pollution however there is always gonna be things that polute the world so cars aren't gonna do that much.

  • no there is no point in buying a eletric car the only reason the people want you to buy a car like that is to save the econmy (global warming). Personally I would not buy a eletic car because they are all useless piceses of junk.

  • I think that it depends on how long the electric vehicle will last and how much it costs to buy. As buying a tesla versus buying gasoline is fairly close and many people think that a tesla is better just because you don't have to buy gas. I personally wouldn't because they cost a lot.

  • I wouldn't buy an electric vehicle until I know they have the capability to do thing like haul heavy trailers, and last on a charge. However, I am open to the idea. Also, the average electric car can go 390 miles on one charge, while the average gas car can go 420, and the average diesel vehicle can go 550 miles on one tank. Therefore, if you can find a charging station you will have to charge there more often then you would have to fill up on gas. But, in the future I can see electric cars milage per charge being higher.

  • I think it would be cheaper to have an electric car since right now gas prices keep rising and you wouldn't have to get gas. I don't think it would be the smartest decision to get an electric car right now since there are hardly any charging stations.

  • I would buy an electric car if we didn't live in the middle of nowhere and possily had a charger within like 50 miles. A gas car is just so much more convient and is awesome with the noices that it makes. You can also easily upgrade gas cars and electric cars lack that.

  • I think since my family's cars that aren't electric are already expensive as it is it would be cheaper to get an electric car because of the prices of gas right now and how high it is. I wouldn't buy an electric car because I'm poor but, if I hadn't already gotten a hand-me-down car I might have asked my parents to buy an electric one.

  • I have seen a couple videos of people compare electric and petrol vehicles on things such as cost to drive and most of the time the electric car was cheaper to drive because they could charge for like 5 to 15 bucks wich nomatter how you look at it is always cheaper than petrol.

  • I think that electric cars are a joke. They need to get the electricity to charge the cars from somewhere. The chargers are usually fueled by the electricity from the house. The electricity from the house is made from burning coal and while burning coal you are polluting the air so it does not do anything when you buy an electric car.
