Hurricane Harvey Affects Gas Prices

Since Hurricane Harvey, fuel prices at the pump have increased. In Texas, gas stations are running out of gas. This has caused America’s largest oil refinery to be closed for two weeks. The owner of the refinery states that he can not provide a timeline for when it will reopen. The refinery can not start back up until the water height decreases. The shutdown of the oil refinery is a huge upset because it processes around 603,000 barrels of oil per day for the world. Quik Trip, a convenience store located in North Texas, plans to stop selling gas in half of their 135 stores. Owners have warned citizens to fill up their fuel tank before it’s too late.

How has this gas jump impacted you?

Is your family concerned about this raise?

Will the price going up, impact on how much you drive?

Opinion- Since I pay for my gas, the gas jump has impacted by wallet. Now, I pay more at the pump for the the same amount of gas than prior to Hurricane Harvey. My family has talked about the rise in fuel prices and is upset because it is likely to continue. They are concerned how prices will affect harvest season. I will cut back on how much I drive around just for fun and start driving to only things that are important.

  • Good summary but by you didn't leave any comments which is worth 20 points.

  • I pay for my own gas so this has had a little bit of an impact on me. I understand that they have to do this but it still upsets me that gas is at such a large price now. My family hasn't really talk about this because we know that they are doing this for a reason and it's not just because they feel like it. The price going up will change how much I drive. I won't be making as many trips to the city for awhile.

  • I haven't been impacted, but it will probably become an issue eventually. My family and I haven't discussed this topic, so they must not be concerned yet. A raise in gas prices would definitely impact how much I drive. My parents already wish I didn't have to drive so much, so I'm sure I wouldn't be able to drive to extracurriculares I am not particularly a part of.

  • I don't own a car/vehicle so I'm not personally impacted by this, but my family travels a lot so eventually it's going to start costing more for us to drive to places that are farther away. My family hasn't really talked about the raise in prices, but if the price continues to go up, I'm sure they sill soon. We will still have ot drive a lot of places no matter how much the gas costs, it is just going to be more expensive for my family.

  • The prices are much higher so filling up my car is way more expensive.

Yes for the time being but it should start going down again.

A little, there are sometimes that I can't limit my driving.

  • Gas prices have been rising which has a huge impact on my wallet because I have to fill up my tank every four trips I make to Harlan and back since I live 25 minutess away. Harvest is coming soon and we have some tanks at our house but those are only for machinery and have to be filled regularly. Rising prices for gas have majorly impacted my family because we have to drive so much to get anywhere. Our closest grocery store is 25 minutes away which takes about a quarter of a tank of gas to get there and back. My sister and I always try to ride to school together, but because we are in different activities it's extremely hard which means paying extra for gas. My mom also has to drive a ways to get to work and both my parents come to all of my family's activities. I'm going to have to drive the least amount possible.

  • I do not own a vehicle, so it has not impacted me or my family yet. My family is not too concerned that I am aware of, since we do not talk about this. I do not pay for my gas since I do not have a school permit nor a license. I do not have too much of a concern yet for it.

  • I don't own a vehicle so it hasn't impacted me... My family hasn't really talked a lot about gas prices, but we travel a lot, so it probably is going to be a concern. I don't have my license and I live too close to school to have a permit, so it doesn't impact how much I drive (as of now).

  • I live on a farm so it hurts me and my dad a lot because that is a lot more money that we used to not have to pay like you said. We could be using it for something else. We are a little worried or annoyed because it is just so much. No because If i have to get somewhere I have to drive.

  • 1) The gas prices have jumped quite a bit like you mentioned and I haven't filled up with gas in a long time since they went up. I don't remember the last time I did. So its impacted me a lot.

    2) Yes my family is concerned about the prices because they don't want us to go places as much and don't want us driving as much

    3) Yes it will and yes it already has because I don't do much anymore after football. Usually just school work or relax.
