History of the Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have a rich history dating back to 1876, when there name was the Chicago white stockings. As the white stockings they had a quick success by winning 6 of the leugues first 11 NL championships. They later changed the name in 1903, The Team had multiple nicknames likes The colts and The orphans. The cubs best season was in 1906 winning 116 games, having a .763 winning percentage, But they lost to the cross team rival in the world series. The Cubs later won the world series in 1907,1908, and 2016.

Wrigley Field. The Cubs moved there in 1914, but was named Weeghman Park, but was later changed to Wrigley field in 1926 and is the second oldest stadium in the MLB. The Cubs had early success in the league, from 1929 to 1938, the cubs won 4 NL pennats(titles)in 1929, 1932, 1935, and 1938. After the Season of 1938 the cubs only had one winning season until 1945. IN 1945 the cubs won the NL pennat and in that World series the curse of Billy Goat began. In the Fourth game on that World Series Billy Sianis was forced to leave Wrigle Field becasue he brought a goat in side the stadium. Cubs fans and People of Chicago saw this as a curse and was becasue the cubs would not go to the World Series in 70 years.

The Historic 2016 World Series. In 2015 The cubs had an unexpected run in the postseason getting to the NLCS but getting eliminated in that game. After that season the players were hungry for the title and did not want to get that far and lose again. The team was stacked with the NL MVP of that year and multiple time Gold Glove and Silver Sluggers award players on the team. The 3 most notable were Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javier Baez. The cubs finished the year 103-58 the best record in the MLB that year.

The Cubs steam rolled threw the NLDS and NLCS beating the Giants 3-1 and beating the Dodgers 4-2. The Cubs play the Clevland Indians in the World Series, This is the Cubs first time to the World Series since 1945 and havent won it since 1908. The cubs fell behing 3-1 early in the series and were down.In game 5 they pulled out a teeth clenching win and forced a game 6. In game 6 they pulled out a win, winning 9-3 at Wrigley, and will play game 7 in Clevland. The Cubs opened the game winning 6-3 but the indians came back and scored 3 runs in the eighth inning tieing it 6-6. But there was a rain delay stooping prior to the tenth inning. During the rin delay players gave a pep talk and got the players fired up. In the Tenth the Cubs scored 2 runs and held on winning there first World Series in 108 years.

  • Great topic choice and very well done Michael! Be sure to comment back on three different days.

  • I don't watch that much baseball but If I had to chose a favorite team it would be the cubs. I did not know that some MLB teams have played for a long time. I  have never heard of the curse of Billy Goad but it dosn't sound very real.

  • I do have a favorite MLB team. That being the Saint Lois Cardinals, the rivals to the chicago cubs. We have not been good in a while but im hoping that will change sometime in the future. I did know that MLB teams played a long time ago. Being that baseball was one of the first sports.

  • My grandpa and little brother really like the Chicago Cubs. I really don't care for baseball, but since they like the Cubs, I will support them and like the. I have not heard of the Curse of the Billy Goat. That kinda sounds a little crazy!

  • I do have a favorite MLB team but they aren't very good as of lately, it is the kansas city Royals they have 2 world seirie with 2015 being the most recent. I have not heard of the Curse of the Billy Goat but i don't think it is real. I did know that baeball was old but i didn't know that they played that long ago.

    • A lot of people like the Royals because they are close to where we live, I agree with you that the curse wasnt actually real.

  • My favorite MLB team is the Chicago cubs and they have won 3. I do not think it was a real curse but a bunch of people thought it was.  I did know the they played a long time ago because baseball is popular and has been played by many.

    • Yes I agree, that the curse actually wasnt a curse and just people thinking it was becasue the team wasnt doing good.

  • I don't have a favorite MLB team. I personally prefer to watch college atheltics over some professional leagues. I've never heart of the Curse of Billy Goat, but I believe it was just superstitious fans being extremely picky. I don't know many old MLB teams, but I think the name changes of past teams are interesting.

    • I agree with you about watching college sports, I like to watch College basketball way more than wathcing the NBA. I also think the fans were being superstitious
