History of Hunting

The history of hunting goes way back 2 million years ago. The cavemen only had hand-made wooden spears, bows, and arrows back then. Hunting was the only way they had to survive, they had to hunt every animal they could kill and use all of the resources of that animal. They would eat every piece of meat on the animal, use all of the bones as broad heads for the arrows, and make knives out of the bones. The cavemen would also use the hides from the animals as coats, blankets, etc.

A little over 500 years ago people and cavemen started to use guns to hunt for animals. They would use black powder rifles, which were also used during the Civil War. When they started using black powder rifles to hunt it became way easier to hunt, they did not have to get as close to the animals to kill them because they could reach out to a hundred yards with the black powder, compared to the spear and bow they had to be close.

Hanting has come a long way since 2 million years ago. Now we have rifles that will kill an animal at 500-600 yards with no problem. We also have new archery technology they will kill an animal at 70-80 yards compared to 2 million years ago you had to be within 15 yards because the arrow was moving so slowly and with the new technology they are making the arrows move way faster and are shooting a lot more accurate. The clothing has also come really far for hunting, there are hunting clothing brands that have come far and are selling one piece of clothing for over $500. I have always been a hunter and always will be.

Have you ever been hunting or would you want to?

If so what animals do you hunt or want to hunt?

Did you know that hunting has been around for this long?

  • Your topic is fine but your focus should be on the US History of hunting, not the world history of hunting. Also be sure to comment on two different days.

  • I did not know that hunting has been around this long. Hunting is top for survival and a nessicity for living. It's really cool that hunting has been around this long.

  • I've never been hunting but I feel like it'd be a cool experience. I feel like people hunt a bunch of different types of animals. It is definitely based off preference. I figured that hunting had been around this long just for the sole reason that people needed to have food to survive.

  • I have been hunting since I was little and will probably continue to hunt for the rest of my life. I've hunted pretty much all of the animals that are legal in Iowa. I would like to go somehwere and hunt something else though to. Yes I knew hunting has been around for awhile because thats how people survived.

  • I have been hunting a couple of times with some friends. If I were to hunt more often I would probably hunt pheasants and deer. I am not surprised that hunting has been around for a long time because that's how they were able to make clothes from the animals and eat the animals.

    • It is fun when you go hunting with friends, I think pheasant hunting is the best when you shoot a limit.

  • I would like to try hunting but I have never gone hunting before. I wouldn't mind going deer or pheasant hunting. I do know thats it been around for a while and I can tell that is had been very popular for a while aswell.

    • It is very fun pheasant hunting but sitting for deer can get boring.

  • I haven't ever been hunting and I don't think I would want to in the future. It just isn't really my thing and I don't have an interest for it. I did know hunting was around for a long time because that is how people in the early times got their food to eat.

  • I have hunted since I was 6 and I think that I will contiue to hunt for the rest of my life. I have hunted almost every animal that you can leagaly hunt In Iowa as well as hunting elk in colorado. I would like to hunt a bear in alaska some day.
